This is a long shot, but I wondered if the Newton you are seeking is in any way connected to the Newton Walker, b. abt 1835/38, who is listed in 1850 Screven census with father, Walter Walker, and mother Elizabeth (surname possibly Newton). In case some of the Oglesbee cousins have some information, I decided to post here. In the 1870 census for Screven County, I found the following family. I think Mariah may be the wife of George Washington "Green". What I am interested in is who is the Jasper listed as living with her. Mariah 50 Washington 20 Russell 18 Newton (I think) 16 Lawton 15 Dawson 15 Elford 12 Jasper 23 Mary 20 Thomas 2 To explain the interest, Jasper Newton, son of William R Oglesbee, is my great grandfather. Face it Jasper is not the most common name, so it caught my interest. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
