    3. Savannah, April 30. Last Saturday at Skull Creek, south side of the Great Ogechee River (Effingham County), MRS. MILLS, and her two infant children were murdered by the Indians...it seems to be the opinion of people in the country that it was instigated by white people who bore a grude (sic) against the family. JOSEPH MACANFUS returned Wednesday from a mail run to St. Augustine and made oath to the Deputy Postaster (sic): At St. Marys he found the ferry broken up and could find no way across for six miles up or downstream. JAMES LAMON, keeper of the ferry at Sitille (sic) told him that the Creek indians had lately killed some settlers on the Florida side of the St. Marys, about 15 miles above the ferry...one old MILLS and his daughter, another man named MILLS with his wife and 3 children, one CUMINGS, and BENJAMIN BAKER. A gentleman from the southward has given us the following account...JEREMIAH WILDER, BENJAMIN BAKER, GEORGE MILLS, and one CUMMINGS, were fired upon by six of the Indians, who wounded all of them but MILLS...who escaped to his brother WILLIAM MILLS house further down the river, where he found his daughter Mrs. WILDER...(GG 10/7/1767, 3:2) Savannah, April 13. Yesterday morning a man was found shot dead about 2 and one half miles from this city on the Augusta Road. JACOB MILLS appears to have come to his death near this city through his own imprudences, using abusive and threatening language was shot by Mr. JAMES SIMPSON in his own defense, who surrendered.
