He was one of those worthies who bore the toils and difficulties of the Revolutionary War. Living then on the frontier of the state, his father and mother, a brother and a sister were killed by the Indians; three brothers, one sister and himself made their escape, and though then very young he immediately took an active and successfull part in subding those savage enemies. Afterwards he was promoted to a respectable commission and distinguished himself until the close of the war, as an officer and a soldier. In the death of this amiable man his family, relations, friends and neighbors have met with an irreparable loss. For many years he was a member and a deacon in Baptist Church. Apr. 8, 1817."
