    2. GREENE Surname Lookups (GREEN without E will follow later) pg. 1 " Another Revolutionary Soldier Gone! Died at his residence in Washington, Wilkes Co. on the 24th ult. in his 77th year, Col. John GRAVES. He was born in Culpepper Co., VA. Entered the army 1776 as a lieutenant in the 8th Virginia Regiment; at the close of the war he was a Major. He was in the battles of Brandywind, Germantown, Monmouth and at the siege of York. When GENERAL GREENE crossed the Yadkin River he was in charge of 200 men to protect passaage of the troups; they had engagement with CORNWALLIS in doing so, but succeeded in protecting the troups and themselves, crossing the Yadkin with a loss of only 3 killed and 5 wounded. Moved to Georgia 1784. In 1786 he commanded a regiment against the Creeks. The Treaty of Shoulderbone followed, to which he was a witness. He was elected by the legistlature as a Presidential Elector in the last election." (Nancy note: the entry before this (above) in May 25, 1824. the entry after is July 20, 1824. So it appears this notice was May 25th or June of same year) pg. 4 "In East Greenwich, R. Miles GREENE, inher 52nd year. Had been a member of the Methodist Church 25 years. Jan. 26, 1832." pg. 21 "On the 14th inst. near Milledgeville, James William GREENE, the youngest son of Rev. Miles GREENE, age 12 years, 8 days. Aug. 23, 1832." pg. 50 "On the 8th inst. at 5 P.M., at the residence of his mother Mrs. Elizabeth GREENE, widow, of Baldwin Co., after a short illness, Mr. Robert GREENE, in his 19th year; he was the youngest of son, William being the oldest son. SKIDMORE and daughter of Charles BALDWIN, dec'd. and Mrs. Ann BALDWIN (Now Mrs. GREENE) in her 28th year. She was a worthy member of the methodist Church since early life. She had expected her death from her approaching confinement. She was confined to her bed Sunday the 6th and dies Tuesday following. She leaves four little daughters, one of them a 2 day old infant. C., formerly of Rhode Isalnd. Jan. 11, 1806." pg. 177 "Mr. George Washinton GREENE, son of the late Gen. GREENE, was drowned in the river near Mulberry Grove thursday morning by the overturning of his canoe. Mr. STILES, a young gentleman, with him, with difficulty made it to the shore. Mr. GREENE'S body was found next day and on Saturday was interred here. The Cincinnati Society of which he was a member, together with a number of respectable citizens attended the funeral. GREENE, dec'd., April 30, 1802." That's all the GREENE'S with an (E). There are, however, entries of obit for other soldiers who served under General GREENE. No Info about GREENE himself. If anyone would be interested maybe LATER I can post those tha served with or under him.
