Survived by her husband and a young child." THE DARIEN GAZETTE, 1818-1824 pg. 22 "At his residence in Sparta, Hancock Co., Tuesday 20th inst., Capt. Duke HAMILTON in his 62nd year. He was born in Greenville Co., VA. 22 Sept 1781 (sic); came to Georgia in 1790 and settled near Sparta. His parents moved there the next year, 1791. He was married in 1800 to Miss Elizabeth Scott and located on plantation adjoining his father and lived there until five years ago when he moved into Sparta. He served 1792-93 as a volunteer in the Georgia state troops with rank of Lieut. In 1813 he volunterred for service against the Creek Indians and was attached to Gen Floyd's command and the company he commanded was assigned to scouting.
