    3. Dear Joyce SCOTT, I am glad to furnish you, by e-mail, the material that I had furnished to George W. SMITH (Mar 1999, which includes abstracts of data from many primary sources to provide the needed background) and Randy SCOTT (Sep 1999); however, in a post just within the last few days, Randy SCOTT indicated that he has proven his descent from William SCOTT Sr (probable brother of my ancestor James SCOTT Sr) & Elizabeth RIEVES, and thus has evidently done research beyond what I was able to furnish to them and am able to now furnish to you. As to his additional data, I must refer you to Randy SCOTT for the primary sources on which his research and additional data are based. The two messages of Mar 1999 will furnish you the background data which I have for your Screven Co GA family. Note: Randy, I certainly would like to know more about those additional (GA?) documents concerning William SCOTT Sr, etc. and where I might see them as well; abstracts of this material would be helpful to many of us. Among other matters, in that recent message, Randy SCOTT indicates that he has: Established a birth year (and the decade of his death) for William SCOTT Sr (I have not found a census record for him, or other supporting data, so I do not have a birth year, or even a range of years, for him), Established Revolutionary Service (RS) in SC (because James, William and SCOTT are such common names, ascribing RS {in SC or elsewhere}to our SCOTTs must be done with great care -- ours may {or may not} be old enough to have served in that war), Established that William SCOTT Sr had more than one supposed brother (Josiah SCOTT was a very wealthy man {owned 104 slaves at one point}and no less than twenty-six of his cousins, with a dozen or more surnames, lined up for their inheritance -- it is quite doubtful that Josiah was related to our SCOTTs, since none of our SCOTTs were listed as due a portion of that considerable estate), and Established that the mother of the dozen or so children of William SCOTT Sr is Elizabeth RIEVES (I can only count her, from deed evidence, as the mother of just one of these children; for me, the mother{s?} of the others is unknown). William SCOTT Sr's children had ties to Wayne Co GA and many moved on to Jackson Co FL, however I have not been able to place the lot of them in the earlier census records (admittedly, I primarily rely on records from Bulloch, Effingham and Screven Cos GA), that is, the census records prior to 1850. I am descended from James Franklin Scott, brother of Sherrod & Jasper, whom are reportedly children of William Scott. Do you have any information on the ancestry or siblings of William Scott? Hi ! I'm new to this news group but heavily involved in genealogy since 1974. In the past several months I have proved, finally, my Scott family back to g-g-g- grandfather William Scott ( c.1760-183--) One of his brothers', James Scott, has a long family line in Screven thru the current generation ( ironically, one of his descendants, Benjamin Franklin Scott, 111, died here in the past few weeks ( Jacksonville, Fl ) James was alledged, at one point, to have been a Rev War Vet but I believe William and another supposed brother, Josiah, were vets, from South Carolina service. William had over ten children by Elizabeth Rieves including my g-g- grandfather, James Franklin Scott ( b. 1815 Screven Co died April 7, 1870 Jackson County, Fla he was there c. 1841/42 His first known child, my g-g-grandfather Sam ( Samuel Francis Marion Scott ) was born there Dec. 5, 1842. Along with Jim was his brothers Jasper and Sherwood ( Sherod ) and at one time Homer and sister Rhoda. By 1860 sisters Mary Ann with her S/Co husband Joseph Cox and sister Sarah with her S/Co husband Ferdinand Weeks I am looking for data on William Scott's history/ancestry and descendants and especially history of the Rieves family, via Elizabeth's father Richard Glad to share my data rscott@leading.net fax 904-739-2370 Randy Scott Entertainment _______________________________ From: John R Peavy 09/09/99 To: rscott@leading.net Subject: Re: Scott ancestry Screven Co.Ga Dear Cousin Randy SCOTT, I cannot be long at this -- we are about to go out of town for a while (and I've been tied up with many other matters of late). I so far don't have any reason to beleive that William SCOTT Sr is other than the brother of James SCOTT Sr (and that Joseph SCOTT is the son of one of them). I had received earlier information that there could be another brother, a John SCOTT "Sr," but the "Jr" for that proposed gentleman turned out to be John SCOTT, son of William SCOTT Sr. I think that the records that I've seen so far make James SCOTT Sr and William SCOTT Sr contemporaries -- their descendants remained close (James SCOTT Sr's widow and her second husband are at one point living with the bachelor William Thomas SCOTT and the census records imply that representatives of the two branches continue to live near each other). The key to counting out the dozen or so children of William SCOTT Sr is the estate of his unmarried son, William Thomas SCOTT ("Jr") in the 1850s or 1860s as the various surviving brothers and sisters are involved in the estate distribution, many of them in Jackson Co FL. Since only Richard Rieves SCOTT is accounted for in the RIEVES' wills, he may be the only child of WIlliam SCOTT Sr by Miss RIEVES. I do not know the mother(s) of the others, including those that moved on to Wayne Co GA and then either back to Screven Co GA or on to Jackson Co FL. Perhaps with a trip to the Screven Co GA (and even the Wayne Co GA) Court House, you might be able to uncover more estate records or deeds to help you with your quest. I'll eventually send along messages concerning the little that I learned of your SCOTTs and RIEVES, although you perhaps have that already from Cousin George SMITH -- as almost always, I posted the more data-ful messages to the GASCREVE-L mail list, so they are now in many places, likely including the family folders at the Statesboro Regional Library. I am surprised that a book in the Statesboro Regional Library repeats what I've only recently been able to learn in researching to respond to Cousin George SMITH's inquiry! ... ________________________________ From: Randy Scott rscott@leading.net 09/09/99 Subject: Scott ancestry Screven Co.Ga John..George Smith gave me your site address and copies of the Screven Co fata you sent him re: our Scott's in S/C, wills, etc connecting my Jackson County, Fla Scott's with the descended family of James Scott,Sr ( once listed as a Rev War Vet but proven not (?) 1757-1831 ) My grandfather was b Dec 5,1842 Jackson County, Fl his dad,James Franklin Scott b.1815 S/C , Ga ( both served Confederacy from J/C, Sam in 6th Fla Regt, Jim in 8th Fla Regt..went in as asubstitute in 1863 at 48 and wass discharged later that year with clogged artery problems he died April 7,1870 from this heart problem..I began in 1974 searching for my Scott ancestry and got seriously looking in 1981 by '82 I began zeroing in on James Scott'Sr's line thinking they might be my connection ( Jim's Discharge Papers declared he was born 1815 in Screven Co, Ga ) Thru Census' , Wills, marriage records, county historys, etc I compiled his descendants as far as I could go..some years ago I received a copy of the published geneaology of James which included your Hope B. Scott line..I traced them down to a B.F. Scott living here in Jacksonville who was a Benj.Franklin Scott 111..I had found an obit in the local paper on his father and called him..unfortunately he could have cared less about his family history ( he said:"I'm retird Army, got my house paid for, a littles food and a case of beer every few days and that's all I care about..my son,too ! ") so I have massive notes on this family and now, thanks to George it looks like I have connected my line back thru James.Sr but, I believe, thru Wm Scott, father of Wm T., et al..I believe William to be James' first born (if not James,Jr) Your data suggests he might be a brother to James ? The (Fake?) DAR records I have copies of on the 'cuz' who applied for membership thru James ( Walter Scottie Scott informed me a month back that this data was false, that James did not serve but it was believed he had brothers that did and that they were from NC not Virginia..do you have anything on this ? ) ( by the way, sorry for my vast rambling here..I'm trying to compose this and answer phone, other E mail, faxes,,I own/operate Randy Scott Entertainment Agency,Inc here in Jacksonville..have been in entertainment 44 years come February, staring when I was 11 ) ) If you can further educate me on this Scott line please do..I have my line all but complete thru latest generations ( James F. was married twice but I don't know who his first wife, Sam's mother,was..By his teenage bride, Jane Brown, b. Alabama she was 17/18 when he married her in 1848 at 35 ( lucky rogue!!) they had a son William b.1848/49 who died by 1860 Censusand then during and after the War he begat and begot 3 girls and 3 boys who went on to create large families now all over Florida and s.w. Georgia..I am the last Scott thru my grandfather,Sam's youngest child, Charles H. Scott 1880-1961....I told Scottie and George that I plan to make a trip to Screven Co as soon as I can find an open weekend ( hard to do in my business since I'm either booking acts, overseeing them or performing in one of five different bands I have under my name ) Scottie offered to show me around especially James'Sr's grave..George said he would like to make the same trip also and all meet for the first time...perhaps you could join us.. will keep you informed I thank you very much in advance for any assistance you can be, Randy PS I just remembered..Scottie first contacted me thru an inquiry in 1988/89 and then we lost touch..he saw my inquiry on the Net USGenWeb.com site and in the Family Tree paper out of Moultrie, Ga..he told me that he had seen a book in the Sylvania or Stateboro Library on the Rieves family re: Elizabeth Rieves marrying William Scott and they being the parents of James F, Jasper, Sherrod, etc ( their sister, Rhoda, was living in J/C,Fl in 1850 census, age 17 she married Rueben Conner in 1854 in J/C, there 1860 Census with children..) Do you have any data on the Rieves family from Screven..I have a Will or two that mentions her father and brothers and William but not James,Jasper etc ..Thank you ! -R- ________________________________ From: Randy Scott rscott@leading.net 09/09/99 Subject: Scott addendum John,,I knew I'd forgotten something..you now have my E mail, my phone is 904-731-7065 home/office; Fax 904-739-2370 address 8453 Lynda Sue Ln W Jacksonville,Fl 32217 Web site www.randyscott.com pager 904-720-7647 Thanks! __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html
