    2. Hello Linda, I too would like to learn something about this outfit. My great-great grandfather Miles Smith served in Co. D, 47 Reg as a private. I have his widow Margaret Elizabeth Williams Smith's widow's pension papers which indicate that Miles Smith was with the company when it surrendered following the Battle of Bentonville, NC. That battle was one of the last, if not the last, big battle of the Civil War. It occurred I believe a couple of weeks after Lee's surrender to Grant.
