    1. [GASCREVE] Re: The History of Screven County, Georgia
    2. Just a couple of adders to the correct info passed out so far: 1) Mrs. Averett (nee Hollingsworth) is still the sweetheart she always was but she is a bear to run down as she has gone back to work (someplace other than the Telephone). I finally got her over the week-end. 2) all the caveats about HofSCGa are correct. The quality of the individual family histories can charitably be described as "uneven"; some family authors did a good job, some did a really poor job, although I'm sure all did the best they could. While I'd be reluctant to cite the volume as a "source" unless some "pro" like Scottie or Bob Peavy wrote the article, the book is still a gem in terms of suggesting tracks and trails. Its a steal at 60 bucks, shaky though it may be in places. 3) I talked recently with Linda Averett when I heard that she had copies left of "The Barefoot Confederate".....written by her first husband in part as a history of the Ga. 47th Inf. of Screven County in the War of Southern Independence. Not so. Linda has the "master" (not copies) and says she'll get around to making some more copies in a month or two. I suspect the more people who ask for that one as they place orders for the HofSCGa the more likely she'll get "motivated". :) Best, John M. Poythress
