Hi Barb, I looked at the U.S. 1895 Map Site and saw that Hillis did lie in Burke Co., between the Wade Plantation and Girard. I have a Georgia DOT General Highway Map of Burke Co. from 1987 and there is a Hillis Road appearing on that map. Godbee Rd. is intersected by Dixon Rd. and the continuance of Godbee is then named Hillis Rd. Upon entry in Screven Co. Hillis Rd. becomes Sunbury Rd. (which runs into Screven Co. CR15 - Stony Bluff Rd. [not to be confused with the Burke Co. CR60 - Stony Bluff Rd.]). Hillis Rd. is located approximately 33 o 00 o North and 81 o 38 o West. If Hillis Rd. passes through or adjacent to the site of Hillis, then the community of Hillis was about equidistant from Girard, Millhaven and the intersection of Stony Bluff Rd., River Rd., and Oglethorpe Trace at the Burke and Screven Cos. line. It seems to have rested in the middle of the triangle represented by those three points. Close by are: St Paul Church; Bethesda Church; St. John's Church; Corinth Church; and Oak Grove Church. I hope that this information has been useful. Dale E. Reddick ________________________________ ID472@aol.com wrote: > Dale, > sorry about the problem.
