    2. Scottie, Thanks much for the offer! Are you a history teacher? If not, you certainly do seem to have a big interest in history and clearly a huge interest in genealogy. 2. Monica Williams
    3. Hello Everyone, I am Monica Williams and I have recently began a search for my family. My grandmother's family lived in Screven county for some time and this is where I'm beginning my search. Since I am African-American, I have had a difficult time finding the names of my great-grandparents, Roxie Anna (Soloman) Jackson and John Henry Jackson. If you have any information on these two last names please forward it to me. Thanks ................................................................................. iWon.com http://www.iwon.com why wouldn't you? .................................................................................

    1. RE: [GASCREVE] Roberts family
    2. Hello Cathy, My knowledge of my Roberts family is pretty slender. The earliest Roberts I can trace with any certainty is my g g g grandmother, Merincy "Rintha" Roberts born about 1809, died Dec 1879 in the 35 GMD, Screven Co. She married Archibald Smith on 15 Mar 1827. They were married by William H. Wade, JP. Arch was the administrator of the estate of Patsy Rhodes, who I believe died in 1854. This Patsy Rhodes had a son named Bryant Roberts, who I believe left Screven Co. for Lowndes Co. before the 1850 census. There was also a "Julyann" Roberts that I see in the 1870 Screven Co. census living near Rintha and her son Miles, probably around the Double Heads Bapt Ch/Ogeechee/Rocky Ford area of Screven Co. This Julyann is listed as being 40 years old. I have wondered if Patsy was the mother of both my Rintha and this Julyann, as well as Bryant. This Patsy was probably a Thrower originally, since a researcher told me that he found a record that indicates that Willis Thrower was her brother. I have found a marriage record of Martha Roberts to David Rhodes in the Screven Co. marriage records. I believe the marriage occurred in 1823, which I am thinking was a second marriage. What I would like to know now is if Patsy really was the mother of my Rintha, which Roberts did she marry? I have found no marriage record of a Thrower to a Roberts or anything else that matches in the Screven records, but of course the Screven marriage records only go back to about 1817, so there shouldn't be anything there if Patsy married the Roberts before my Rintha's birth in about 1809. 2. Does anyone have any information on the descendants of James J. McKinney (1867-1937), (son of William McKinney and Elizabeth Mock McKinney) and his wife Mary Ann McKinney (1868-1938) (she was the daughter of Miles Smith and Margaret Elizabeth Williams Smith)? Jim and Mary Ann were both born, raised and married in Screven Co. They moved first to Bulloch Co, then to Tattnall Co, then to Wayne Co. and wound up in Kendall, Dade Co. Fla where they died. They were brought back to Georgia for burial and buried near Odum in Wayne Co. Would like to get info. on their children and their descendants for Smith family history. My Smith line is as follows: Archibald Smith (b. ca. 1802 in NC? - Died Oct 1860 in Screven Co) married Merincy "Rintha" Roberts (1809-1879) on 15 Mar 1827 in Screven Co. Arch and Rintha were married by William H. Wade, JP. I believe they lived mostly around the Double Heads/Ogeechee/Rocky Ford part of Screven Co. and are probably buried there in unmarked graves. Arch and Rintha had sons Miles (b. abt 1839 in Screven Co., died 1901/1902 in Tattnall Co. (now in Toombs Co.), Simeon, (born 1853 in Screven Co. died in 1923 in Bacon Co.) and a bunch of girls, some of whom seem never to have married. One daughter was named Martha. It would appear that she at one time married a Morris, but may have wound up with a Rowland. She I believe remained in Screven County. Any leads much appreciated. Thanks, Tom

    3. Nancy, Sure wish I could help you, but I'm don't find anything with William Franklin, other than in Screven County marriage records, where "William F. WAters m 16 Nov 1849 Ann Hunter". I'm sure you had that already. John Waters was the son of Henry B. WAters, Sr. (b. Sept 18, 1815, d. Feb 7, 1892) and Clarissa Parker (b. Jan 2, 1821/22, d. March 2, 1892). Henry and Clarissa are also buried at McDonald Cemetery. The information that I have says that Henry and Clarissa had the following children: Twin, died at birth. (b. May 14, 1839) James, twin ( " ) Michael (b. Feb 8, 1841) Mary Alice (b. June 25, 1842... my Paternal gg grandmother) John (b. Aug 30, 1844.... my Maternal g grandfather) Henry J. (b. Feb 7, 1847) Green ( b. Jun 7, 1849) Elizabeth (b. Jan 3, 1851) Hardy (b. Apr 23, 1853) Martha Jane (b. July 15, 1855) Amanda (b. Apr 1, 1859) Susan O. (b. Dec 22, 1860) Louisa (b. July 10, 1863) Parents of Henry B. Waters were Michalel Waters (b. June 21, 1786, d. c. 1865) and Elizabeth Pengree (b. 1780 / 95, d. Aug 23, 1824) They had 4 children: Henry B. Green Berry (b. Nov. 24, 1817) Mary WAters (b. 1820) Michael ( b. 1823) I've looked through all of my WAters info and don't find your William Franklin, except for the marriage record I mentioned. Wish I could help. I know how you feel.... I'm "stuck" with a couple of my lines, also! Good luck in your search. 2. The good and the bad of it!!!!! First the bad of it.The mystery of two Rebecca's was not a mystery but a mistake the emanated on my part that was the result of a message I sent to a list member for information requested for information on Simon Smith Family.Wherein Rebecca's name was listed twice as a child of Simon's. How Rebecca's name got in my database twice with different dates I don't know. But the material got sent out as was listed. I apologize to all list members for any inconvience this may have caused anyone. After much research I offer the following correction and explanationand hope this will set the record straight. The Rebecca Smith b. 1793 is the dau. of Simon Smith R/S b. 1755 Nash Co. N.C. and wife Mary. The Rebecca Smith b. 1820 m. (1) John A. Mattox (2) Robert Odum. Was the dau. of James Smith (son of Simon Smith) b. abt. 1778 N.C. d. 1841. m. Francis Bell in 1800. Francis Bell was b. c. 1788 in BrunswickCo., N.C. One thing is I relearned an important lesson. Do not put anything in your database untill you have thoroughly checked it and rechecked it. Then document it. If it looks slightly out of place check it again. Now for the good part of this. I did pick up some material from other list members that I did not have on Simon's family for which I am truly thankfull for. I had not seen as much response from the list members as this generated in a long time. We must have quite a few Simon researchers out there. I want to add that the correction was found way back in my old data and was documented this time in the publication of Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia. Vol. 5 page 396. Again I wan't to reiterate I am sorry for any inconvenience to any list member or non-member. Alfred

    3. Thank you so very much, for sharing your Emma with me. I have had a difficult time with her, only because I wanted to confirm the info that I have, I prefer to receive info from Family members! They know first hand info!! I have had a few references and privately done genealogies on the Hursts over the years and have found that in most case the info is good. But I do have two Emma' and wanted to be CERTAIN that I have them in correct place in the large genealogy. I also have found that many of these references I have seen have conflicting dates for some of the children of many parents. Family Tree maker always tells me right away that something is amiss! I may endulge in your offer, and return, after I check my data. May I ask how many generations back do have the Hursts? I have a manuscript here that begans with John Hurst and Mary, John 1683-1729. am trying to double check all of this and it is quite a job! I desc. from this line via James Hurst and Ann Wilson, here in Effingham. nice to meet you! and thanks for your quick reply! happy to share anything that I have with you. 3. Thanks a lot, Alfred. anything you find will be appreciated. Here, I thought I had that line all set!! But I should know better. I will be monitering this list and watch what comes in. Will be forwarding info you asked for in a previous msg. It really looks like the two Rebeccas are separate generations.
