Thanks to everyone who has helped with our questions. Wayne, thanks for your reference! I have a slightly different birthdate for Sarah A. Hurst-I have recorded her birth as 1813. will check that out. Now, does anyone have any more input on this 2nd marriage tp Belinda A.Whitstone b. 1815. I know that it had to have been the second marriage, as Sarah was married in 1833, and had her first child in that same year. Need to check Screven, I guess for Belinda's info and a marriage record. I would say that it was more than likely in Screven and Lewis is buried in Screven. Looks as tho he resided in both Effingham and Screven Counties. The Whitstone surname is found in Sccreven and not a hint of that name in Effimngham that I have ever seen. this does at least give us omething to go on. Another researcher commented that his notes mention that Belinda was a widow, perhaps when she married Lewis. Any comments or input welcomed. Judy Rountree Mason 2jv@bellsouth.net I do have a recent copy of the marriage of Lewis and Sarah A. Hurst here in Effingham Co. if anyone requires thos document-just let me know!

Hi Judy - This is the information I have on the LANIER family. It does not answer your question, hopefully it will be helpful to TULLIS researchers. Major Lewis LANIER 1st m. Ann BUTLER; 2nd m. Esther BUTTS THORN (THORNE) in 1803. He and Esther had three children. I read somewhere that Lewis was married 4 times. Children of Lewis and Esther: Isaac LANIER (b. 1806) m. Sarah A. Good Morning, Judy Did you receive my email with the answers to BLITCH info you requested, also my request for an application to Effingham Co. Genealogical Society.? I have some info on the LANIER family, if I recall one married a TULLIS, I'll check what I have. I may still have the name of the person who sent it to me, as they were descendants. Have a great weekend. Judy, I can't verify the marriage, but I do know that the "Whetstones" were a numerous and prosperous family in Screven County at that time. Hope this helps. Scottie
Located in southern Georgia, Irwin County was created from "Indian" lands and portions of Coffee and Telfair Counties in 1818. This database is an index of federal census records for county residents in 1900. Each entry provides the individual's name, birth date, and age. Other information provided includes relationship to head of household, race, sex, birthplace, parent's birthplaces, and marital status. If the resident was a mother the enumerator included the number of children born to her and the number of those children still living. The page number refers to the original census record. Containing the names of nearly 13,700 individuals, this index can be a helpful source of information to researchers of Georgia ancestors. Bibliography: Jefferey, Alice, ed. Hello Linda, I too would like to learn something about this outfit. My great-great grandfather Miles Smith served in Co. D, 47 Reg as a private. I have his widow Margaret Elizabeth Williams Smith's widow's pension papers which indicate that Miles Smith was with the company when it surrendered following the Battle of Bentonville, NC. That battle was one of the last, if not the last, big battle of the Civil War. It occurred I believe a couple of weeks after Lee's surrender to Grant. Thank you Scottie, I will look for the book next time I go to the Orlando Library. They have a huge genealogy section and they will probably have it. You have helped so many of us and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Linda

Linda, if you strike any gold on that one would you please share it. My great-grandfather John M. Poythress served in that company. I have his complete service record (available at Ga. Archives). I also have hard copy of something of a "canned and generic" 4 pager on the 47th. It was a minor scam and lists only battles the 47th was "suspected" to have fought in. My guess is all the guy did was follow the route of the Army of Tennessee and type it up.. However if you think it might be helpful I'll be happy to scan you off a copy and put it in snailmail if you'll send me address. And yes, I'm scrambled in with all the Bazemores too :).....not 100% sure they claim us though.:) Best, John M. Poythress
Linda, You can find some info in the "Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia" which can be found in almost any regional library, and if I'm not mistaken, Clyde Hollingsworth published a book called "The Barefoot Confederate", which I believe was about the 47th GA. Hope that this helps. I am glad to meet another "cousin" as I'm descended from James Perry Bazemore's uncle, Abinor Thomas "Tom" Bazemore. Please keep in touch. Scottie Scott

Tom, As a matter of fact, yes, I am a History teacher - Georgia, American, and European, to be exact. Naturally, history isn't anything without people, as I'm sure you're well aware of! Anyway, I asked several people today about the McKinneys in Wayne County, and they drew a blank, but we found several in the phone book, and they all live in Baxley, which is in Appling County, which is right next to Wayne. I'll keep inquiring for you, so please stay in touch. Happy hunting! Scottie
