Does anyone have anything on Alfred Herrington that married Lucy ? in the early to mid 800's? V.Jenkins
John Owen Smith was b. 1843 and birthplace is England. He married a Mock from Screven Co. He must have come over with someone. maybe brothers? He made a trip back to England with his wife and children so probably had some family there. He was a builder and later a justice-whatever that means (judge, J.P.?) in Savannah. I think he married around 1879 to Sara who could have been a 2nd wife. Do you have any family that could belong to him such as parents or siblings? long shot. Hello! I am new to the list and would like to reach anyone researching McMullens or Vicks or Fains or Parramores in Screven County or the area. My GGGgrandparents, James R/S and Sarah Minton Vick came in about 1785 from NC, through SC to -"that part of Burke Co which later became Screven". They had only two sons William, b. SC 1782 and James b. 1788 [and one daughter] but the two sons , who married sisters Lavinia and Rebecca Fain [in Telfair?] each had at least a dozen children. William's stayed mostly in Brooks County [Quitman] Ga, but at least 8 of James and Rebecca's, including all seven sons [the youngest is my gggrandpa] moved down to Florida. James and Rebecca and his mother Sarah 's remains were moved last summer [the land in Quitman they were buried in was sold out of the family] down to the McMullen Cemetery in Largo[Pinellas Co.] but Sarah's husband James was not with them. He died about 1794 in Screven County---it is said he was thrown from a horse and had a broken neck. Does anyone on the list know of a cemetery where he might have been buried? I believe also some of Sarah's Vick relatives lived near this couple. Does the "Old Halifax district" mean anything to you-all? The Fain sisters were two [of Thirteen] children of Thomas Fain and Mary Parramore, whose family is associated with Parramore Hill, in Jenkins[?] county I think. I have heard that the cemetery there is being looked into. Anyone know about that? I do thank anyone who can give me any information on any of these ''Dear Departed Folk" Regards, Steph Powell Cecil stephaxi@mindspring.com
Diane LeBlanc, dianeleb@wcnet.org Researching SMITHS and MOCKS. Sarah Josette Mock (1843-1898) of Screven Co. married John Owen Smith (b. England), and relocated in Savannah sometime around 1880. I know Mocks, but not Smiths. -----Original Message----- From: Deborah Byrd <dbyrd@lightcom.net> To: GASCREVE-L@rootsweb.com <GASCREVE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, March 04, 2000 12:31 PM Subject: [GASCREVE] mailing list surnames and the web page I am building the Web page for posting list memeber names and the surnames that list members are researching. I'll be anxiously awaiting the materials. Thank you for sending them. I looked at the Salzburger site and it was great. Found one BISCHOFF, a widow lady, I believe, but she was here too early for my ancestors. My grandmother was a BISCHOFF and her grandfather came to this country in the early 1800s and is first located in Green County, GA.
Agnes: Mailed today! No charge! Just look at this web site, you may find some kin folks. http://www.msstate.edu/Archives/History/salzb/index.html Sincerely, Bob ADonn4life@aol.com wrote: > My name and address are Agnes M. Agnes: I would have to send snail mail, at this time my scanner is not working for text, only for pictures. Bob, I would very much like to have a photocopy of the information regarding Solomon KEMP. I will be glad to pay any costs. Will you email it or send it usmail? Agnes
Agnes: What you have is correct in the Histiry of Screven County book. I think maynard may have read the first paragraph of Solomon Jr.'s children instead of the last paragraph of Soloman Sr.'s children. I would be glad to send you a photocopy of the article if you would like it. Agnes, I have nothing on that one. Perhaps someone on the wire will pick it up for you. Sorry. Maynard
Thanks a million, Maynard, for the ROOKS information in the History of Screven County, GA book. I am puzzled about one thing, though--my documentation shows Isaac ROOKS was married to Abigail KEMP MERCER, widow of Malachi MERCER. Wonder who Mary is? Agnes
