    1. [GASCREVE] Waters Marriages
    2. Jackie McInnis
    3. I am appealing for help! I have been trying to sort out folks with the surname of Waters who lived in the Screven/Bulloch area. I wonder if anyone can help with the following marriages. I believe most of these were Screven marriages. 1843 William G. Waters m. Miriam Evans 1849 William F. Waters m. Ann Hunter 1849 Mary Ann Waters m. John C. Evans 1851 Lucretia Waters m. Benjamin R. Lee 1853 Lucinda Waters m. Francis Wilson 1856 Sarah Waters m. Joseph B. Lee 1856 Susan Waters m. Williams Ambers 1857 Matilda A. Waters m. George Jeffers 1858 Mary Waters m. Henry Sasser 1859 James W. Waters m. Amanda L. Usher no date Sarah Waters m. Abisha Bazemore I believe many of the above Waterses to be children of Isaac, Jr. or John, Jr who both were sons of Isaac Waters, Sr. who died in 1828 in Bulloch. John, Jr. died about 1841 in Screven and Isaac, Jr. disappeared from the Screven records a couple of years later. All information about these marriages is welcomed ! Likewise, so would information about other marriages of Waterses in this time period. I am sure that I have not listed them all, but I intentionally omitted those I knew were from the Michael Waters line. Jackie

    1. Methodist Records in the Double Heads/Ogeechee Area
    2. Can anyone tell me what were the Methodist churches operating in the area of Ogeechee/Double Heads/Rocky Ford areas of Screven County, and where their records are today? I am particularly interested in the period 1850-1900. Also, have the records of Double Heads BAPTIST Church been microfilmed, and if so, by whom (the Ga. Archives, the Mormons). Thanks, Tom Cooper, great-great grandson of Miles Smith and Margaret Elizabeth Williams Smith, married by Thomas B. Lanier, Methodist minister, in April, 1862 in Screven County.

    1. Re: [GASCREVE] Methodist Records in the Double Heads/Ogeechee Area
    2. Tom, I can't think of any Methodist churches in the immediate area of these 3 communities, except for Macedonia and New Hope, which are across the Ogeechee River in Bulloch County (a lot of Screven Countians attended these churches, though). However, there is a preponderance of Baptist Churches in Ogeechee, Captola, and Rocky Ford - Wades, Red Bluff, Goloid, Union, Rocky Ford, Douglas Branch, Bay Branch, Scarboro, & Doubleheads come to mind immediately. Lastly, Alex Lee knows this area better than anyone I know. He is also part of this discussion group, and will probably read this. Also, he is a member of the congregation at Doubleheads. How about it, Alex? Hope that this helps. Happy hunting! Scottie Scott

    3. Hi. I have included a copy of this post to Pat Hutcheson at the Statesboro Regional Library. They have a marvelous webpage. You can contact Pat at genealogy@mail.bulloch.public.lib.ga.us There is all sorts of information available, and if you are in the Statesboro area, only about 50 minute drive from Savannah up I16, the library is a wonderful genealogical resource! Pat is a dream, too. Just email her, and she will give you all the lowdown. Included in their list of books, publications for sale include all kinds of cemetary info, census info, superior court records, newspaper records from the Bulloch Herald, etc. Carole gdrexel1@airmail.net ----- Original Message ----- From: Cathy Pierce <cathyp@tampabay.rr.com> To: Gregory Drexel <gdrexel1@airmail.net> Sent: Saturday, April 22, 2000 9:30 PM Subject: Re: [GASCREVE] books published by Sylvania Telephone > Do you know if these publication about Statesboro are still available? 1. [GASCREVE] Cookbook With a Genealogy Theme
    2. This is an update to let everyone know that my cookbook is coming along nicely. I've received many delicious recipes, some genealogy, history, stories, a few photos, etc. from many wonderful people. Thanks to all of you, I think this will be a really nice book. It will be more than a "recipe" book, which was my aim. Of course, I've added my own personal touches that I hope will be of interest to everyone. The book will have at least 200 recipes. I don't know exactly how many pages at this point in time, but a rough guess would be 200 pages or more. I am still accepting recipes and whatever anyone would care to contribute to my book. You may email or snail mail them to me. I am hoping to get it together and send it to the publisher within the next few weeks. The publisher will typeset it, send it back to me for proofreading and I'll send it back to them to be printed. All of this could take 4-6 months. I am now accepting payment for my cookbook. For those who have already reserved books, please send payment to me at the address listed below. For those who have patiently been waiting for me to begin taking orders, you may send payment along with your orders to the address listed below, also. Check or money order, please. NO CASH. The cost per book is $ 9.95 plus $ 3.80 for postage making a total of $ 13.75. Please do NOT reply to the list. Reply to me PRIVAYELY at DLizgerlits@aol.com. Thank you and Happy Easter! 1. [GASCREVE] books published by Sylvania Telephone
    2. Gregory Drexel
    3. Does anyone know if the Sylvania Telephone has ever published some sort of recollections of their newspaper? What brought this to mind is the publication by the Statesboro Herald 'Spirit of A People' and 'Statesboro, 1866-1966...A Century of Progress'. At the Statesboro Library I found copies that Miss Bertha Freeman compiled and gave to the Statesboro Library about things that Dixon Hollingsworth and his family had sent out for Christmas cards for lack of a better description...with a vast amount of information regarding early Screven and surrounding areas. Did any of these ever make it into a publication? Carole Farr Drexel gdrexel1@airmail.net HAPPY EASTER. HE IS RISEN!

    1. [GASCREVE] Horse races?
    2. Gregory Drexel
    3. Hi list. I have a question. Does anyone know if, in Screven County, c. 1810-1880 there was a horse racetrack? And if the Livingston, Hobby, Henderson families were into racing or raising horses? Is there a connection between the Livingston family c. 1700's in New Jersey (which wasn't New Jersey then)...minor point <grin>, and the Livingstons in Screven Co. that married into the Hobby and Mills families? 1. [GASCREVE] McCoy Cemetery
    2. Hi All, First time posting to the list... While the majority of my family seems to have come from Early and Decatur Counties, there have been a few scattered family members near Jenkins. I've been trying to find the grave of my great, great grandfather (who I believed may have died in the late 1880's). Someone told me about a McCoy family cemetery in Screven. Does anyone have a survey of this cemetery, know where it's located or if there's a church associated with it I might write to. Thanks for any help! Patricia Parker I'm researching the following surnames: Layton, Strickland, McCormick, McCoy, Parker, Tharp, Birch. Concentration is in the South - North Carolina, Georgia, Florida.
