Hello All, I have the book "Screven County History" by the late Dixon Hollingsworth. The closest thing to a Coursey entry is for "Cousar." However, the Coursey name is listed in the surname indes four times. I hope that this information can prove to be helpful. Hi I am new to your list. I am searching for info on William P. Cannady, born in Emanuel County, Ga., in 1856, died 1925 who married Marriah Olliff, born 1852 died 1907. They married around 1873 and had 8 children. They lived in Emanuel Co and in Candler Co. They are buried at the Olliff Family Cemetery in Olliff Town. When Marriah died William married Rosie Lee Bailey and had four more children. His father was Daniel B. Cannady born 1831 died 1887 who married Rebecca Durden born 1837 died 1910. They had eight children. We believe the brothers of Daniel B. are William E. Cannady and James H. Cannady. They each married Durden sisters. I have the names of the children of Daniel & Rebecca and the names of the children of William & Marriah. Can anyone add to my info, especially in locating the parents of Daniel B. Cannady? I don't know too much about her except that she was born around 1830 and that she married Alfred Herrington. When Joseph W. Hand died in 1917 his children were put in the Methodist Childrens Home in Macon, Georgia. Reports at the childrens home show the children were from Hunters, Georgia. I am looking for any information on the Hand family from Hunters, Georgia. I would like to know who Joseph Hands wife's parents were. Her name was Jennie Sowell Hand. I would like to know where Joseph w. Hand is buried. I have heard Jennie Sowells mothers maiden name was Hurst but I have no proof of this. Really anything about this family would be appreciated. Scottie, I wondered about that also but have never been able to connect them with the Courseys. The Kerseys say they are NOT Courseys so what can one do? LOL Nancy

Nancy, I don't have any info about the Coursey family, but I did teach high school in Emanuel County, and there are a lot of KERSEYs there. These two names are pronounced quite similarly, and I can't help wondering if they are the same family (like the Cannadys and Kennedys or the Herringtons and Herndons). Hope that this helps. Victoria, I can't think of any Howells buried at Mt. Pleasant, however, Sylvester HOWELL Roberts is buried there. Also, one of my ancestor's (James Scott) granddaughters, Julia Powell, married a Howell, and had quite a few children. She is buried at Jackson Baptist Church Cemetery.
