Can someone tell me if Oglesbee (Oglesby) is mentioned? Thanks Cheryl Flowers dc32666@aol.com
Judy, By the way, the museum is located in the old Orphanage, which was the first orphanage in the state of Georgia, and was built not long after Jerusalem Church, which was built 1757-59. The Gnann Family has indeed put a lot of historical items and artifacts in the museum, but did not build it. To reiterate what Bob Griner said in his other letter, we would love to have everyone come out for the festivities on Labor Day. You will be amazed at the number of people who are Salzburger descendants. Hope to see you! Walter E. "Scottie" Scott Member, Board of Directors Georgia Salzburger Society

Bob Hi, First, I email Claudia to read your reply, I know she is on other lists and did not want her to miss it. Thank you for replying. I was planning to make a trip to the Rincon/Springfield to try to find out who/how/when/where I could visit the Salzburgers.Could you give me that information? The Olliffs, I spoke of came from Metter their father died after 1950, My Luree Olliff lives in Texas m Schwausch, and her Francine lives in Savannah. They I am sure are related to the Olliffs you spoke of. At this time, I do not know if I am or not. I have printed your information for future use. I will also contact my Olliff Friends about the book. Thank You My Best to You and Yours Dot Smith
Dot: The Luree you a speaking of was Lorine and she still lives here in Candler County, Metter, GA. She is now a widow and published a cook book in 1991 that has her family history in it with pictures and all. She was one of 6 girls and 1 boy born to James Harrison Olliff and Martha Lois Turner Olliff. There is also a Candler County History book that has 4 articles on the Olliff family in it. The oldest Olliff ancestor listed in these articles came from NC to Bulloch County, GA. He was born in 1752 in NC and was a Revolutionary soldier. He died in Bulloch County in 1800, his name was John Shears Olliff. If the lady named Claudia doesn't already have this info and is not in a locale where these books are available I would be glad to assist her in obtaining same. There are 4 articles on the Greiner-Griner family in the "History of Screven County" written by me. So if any of you have connections to that family I would like to hear from you directly at: bgriner@pineland.net Sincerely, Bob Griner K8888yle@aol.com wrote: > Claudia Hi, > Welcome to the list. Hi, are there any McGlohon's are other spelling of this name listed in your book??? Regards Brenda
Nancy, yes I have already obtained Coursey wills, and Wolfe wills. There is where I was able to discover who their children an wives were in most cases. Not to say that I have not perhaps found everything yet. the courthouse is not but about 6 miles from my log cabin, loke everything else it is finding enough time to get over there as often as possible. Today's goal: The census records of Effingham located at our Old Jailhouse Museum. this might reveal more for us. In a few days I shall post all that I have gathered on the Courseys of my line on Screven and Effingham list in hopes that someone can use it. Will also keep my attention aimed at any unfamiliar coursey info, for others. Judy 2jv@bellsouth.net
Hello All, Regarding questions of families listed in the "Screven County History" - here are some family histories included. There were questions posted regarding Hodges, Marshall, and various spellings of McGlowan. For the latter, someone else has responded. I'll try going through the SCH for references to Hursts and Sowells in a later message. HODGES On pages 170 & 171, under the entry F173, is a description of the family of Isaac Hodges (born Sept. 15, 1813 in Effingham Co.). His is the only Hodges family entry in the book. His parents are listed as being John and Tabitha Hodges, who were married in 1790 in Effingham County. Isaac married Flora Graham on Dec. 17, 1840. It is listed that they had six offspring. Isaac Hodges is listed as having 10 siblings. Isaac is listed as having five aunts and uncles. "Most or this information from the Hodges family Bible owned by Mrs. Bessie Hodges Waters, Sylvania." "Most of the information in the Article is from the records of C.D. Hollingsworth, Sr." Otherwise, there are a great many entries for Hodges among the various Family (F) and history (T) entries. They are: F15 F114 F255 F318 F422 F19 F117 F261 F325 F423 F26 F122 F275 F345 F424 F28 F132 F276 F380 T23 F62 F147 F292 F397 F64 F173 F313 F399 F66 F176 F314 F409 F69 F177 F315 F412 F97 F216 F317 F418 MARSHALL There is no Marshall family entry in the "SCH." However, there are the following entries: F57 F70 F160 F275 The first entry F57 refers to a marriage between a Boykin of Screven Co. with an Air Force officer named Marshall. Under the Brantley family entry of F70 there is a recent marriage between a Brantley and a Marshall. Under the Hagan family entry of F160 there is a marriage noted between Behjamin L. Hagan (1870 - 1905) married Frances Marshall and produced one child named Estelle. Under the Lucas family entry # F275 there is a marriage noted between a Lucas descendent and a Hugh Mills Marshall. Just in passing, I note some Howell connections with the Maner family of Screven Co. and Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton Cos. of South Carolina: William Maner, born 1726 in Bertie Co., N.C., had a daughter named Civility who married a Daniel Howell. Second, there is the following: "John Maner, son of William and Mary (May) Maner, was born in 1759 at Black Swamp, died 1820 at his plantation near the mouth of Brier Creek in Screven County, Ga. He married Ruth Stafford in 1972. They had seven children, all born in South Carolina: 2. John Stafford Maner, born Feb. 8, 1794, died July 18, 1858, married Mahala Roberts Howell, the widow of Caleb Howell Jr., son of Col. Daniel Howell and Civility (Maner) Howell." I must note that there seems to be a -difficulty- with Caleb Howell Jr. being the son of Daniel Howell... Dale E. Emmett and Zelma are buried in Springfield City Cemetery, not in Ebenezer/Jerusalem!! I am embarrassed now and am going to turn off the PC!!! Judy 2jv@bellsouth.net
Never share information before your second cup of coffee! final report on Emmett Saxton Coursey, Jr and his wife Zelma Hinley! I apologize for this, realized the errors of my ways. Emmett, Jr. birthdate is July 5, 1914 not July 15. he died Feb. 15, 1983. Zelma was born * Jan. 11, 1915 no date of death provided Infant Coursey was infant daugher who died Aug. 12, 1938. Does this not make more sense? Judy Mason 2jv@bellsouth.net
UPDATE! After looking over recently obtaind burial info on Emmet coursey, Jr. and his wife and infant, I notice that date recorded for INFANT COURSEY was the same date recorded on Zelmas stone. Perhaps this Jan. 11, 1915 is the infants birth and death date, as well as the DEATH date of Zelma. Did she perhaps die in childbirth? She could not have been born in 1915. No birth date is given for her. Judy 2jv@bellsouth.net
Good Morning to all the good people in Swainsboro, GA. HELP!! I have been told that James Coursey died on June 20, 1876 in Swainsboro, GA. There is a good possibility that his first wife, Margaret Colson Coursey and his second wife Elizabeth Kersey Coursey are buried there also. Can anyone out there in Swainsboro help me. I sure hope you can help this Southern bred Georgia boy, it will be greatly appreciated by me an all my friends who are researching this Coursey family. God bless all my friends and distant relatives out there. Bill Reeves
Jerusalem church is the newer name for what the referred to as the Ebenezer Luthern Church. It is located betwenn the towns of Rincon and Springfield on main highway (21 I believe) There is only a Historic marker at the first and old settlement area. Closer to the Rincon side is the Jeruslam Church and Cemetery, along with a museum built by the Gnann family. Several old original Salzbruger homes or cabins also sit there. Donated by members and reconstructed on the site near museum. also there is a large Retreat Center. Judy
