Dale, This is a long shot, but I have to ask if the Canedy name in question could possibly be Canty/Cantey. I know a lot of times names get turned around when we try to read very old handwriting. Anyway, the reason I ask is that I have been searching for my great-great grandparents, JASPER NEWTON CANTY and CAROLINE CANTY. I recently found out that he was from GA. I had been searching where he lived when I found him on the census in 1880, which was Hampton Co., SC. Ironically, right across the Savannah River from Screven Co. I thought this might be worth a shot. You can e-mail me directly at jilly0820@aol.com. Thanks! Jill
I know that there are several list members who have James Wilson d. 01 mar 1825 Effingham county GA in your trees. I found in an old issue, 1970's of the North Carolina Genealogical Society magazine a statement that James's father was James Wilson b. 1711 in England/Scotland d. after 1755 in Scotland and his mother was Mildred Moore b. bef 1716 and died after 1740. Does anyone have documentation of this? Or of his brothers and sister? I "know" that John Wilson md Maria Riedelsberger was supposedly James's brother and a sister Margaret who married first a West and then a Hines. Does any one have more definite information on them?

I started to count the number of people on the list, both digest and daily mail got up to an hunderd and ran out of fingers and toes to count with. use the toes as ten counters and the fingers and ones. What else is an engineer to do with a calculator? Wish I were still on vacation in Alaska, it is hot here up in the 90's snivel snivel. Deborah

Looking for OVERSTREET and GRINER in Screven and surrounding counties, including neighboring South Carolina, from mid-1700's to present. Thanks Ed Overstreet
Please include at least one of your names, first , last or both and a time span for your names. For instance I could have a family in the county from 1780 - 1790 and nothing afterward and someone else could be searching 1889 and forward. I would have no records/information to help the person. Uses my time and theirs for profit less messages. Nancy, usually the Probate Court/Office contains the wills, estate records, marriage records, letters of guardianship, etc. in any county. I have a Screven county Phone book here but there is no actual listing that says Courthouse. You might call this number: Probate Court 216 Mims Rd. Sylvania, Ga. 564-2783 or same address Clerk of Courts 564-2614 Probate can probably help you with fees and such. don't know if they will look anything up for you tho. Judy 2jv@bellsouth.net
