Savannah, April 30. Last Saturday at Skull Creek, south side of the Great Ogechee River (Effingham County), MRS. MILLS, and her two infant children were murdered by the Indians...it seems to be the opinion of people in the country that it was instigated by white people who bore a grude (sic) against the family. (GG 4/30/1789, 2:3; 5/7/1789, 2:3) Savannah, November 30. Monday last died, MRS. ANN MILLS, wife of Captain JOHN MILLS. JAMES LAMON, keeper of the ferry at Sitille (sic) told him that the Creek indians had lately killed some settlers on the Florida side of the St. Marys, about 15 miles above the ferry...one old MILLS and his daughter, another man named MILLS with his wife and 3 children, one CUMINGS, and BENJAMIN BAKER. (GG 9/30/1767, 2:2) October 7. A gentleman from the southward has given us the following account...JEREMIAH WILDER, BENJAMIN BAKER, GEORGE MILLS, and one CUMMINGS, were fired upon by six of the Indians, who wounded all of them but MILLS...who escaped to his brother WILLIAM MILLS house further down the river, where he found his daughter Mrs. WILDER...(GG 10/7/1767, 3:2) Savannah, April 13. Yesterday morning a man was found shot dead about 2 and one half miles from this city on the Augusta Road. A Jury of Inquest met...JACOB MILLS and Abraham Clyne were fired on from the wood by unknown persons...the latter got away. (CM 4/13/1798, 3:4) see next... April 20. JACOB MILLS appears to have come to his death near this city through his own imprudences, using abusive and threatening language was shot by Mr. JAMES SIMPSON in his own defense, who surrendered. Hi Richard. This is what is said in "Early Deaths..." Savannah, February 28. The Augusta paper of the 16th instant says , "We hear from Greene county, that, on Saturday the 2d instant, the Indians killed CAPT. AUTRY, near Richland Creek. (GSG 2/28/1788, 3:2) That was the only listing for AUTRY. So I guess you'll have to look at the Gazette of the State of Georgia. Yes to both! It's pretty sad, though. Augusta, November 20. We are informed that, besides the murders committed by the Creek Indians a few weeks ago in Greene County, they have lately killed MR. JOHN CLEVELAND and MR. M'DOWALL, both of Franklin County, who went into the nation in pursuit of horses that were stolen from them. A boy narrowly escaped, and brought the information. (Georgia Gazette 12/2/1790, 3:1) Nassau, June 4. Died after a few days illness, MR. THOMAS CLEVELAND. He was favorably spoken of in Charleston, and during his short residence there, acquited himself much to the public satisfaction. He has left a widow and three children, in whose behalf the accustomed benelovence of a liberal public will doubtless be cheerfully exerted. (CM 6/25/1799, 3:1) That is all.
