BUSINESS CHANGES ARE EFFECTED HERE Plans Are Shaped For New Year's Celebration Ellaville merchants and business men Thursday held optimism for improved business conditions during 1939, sharing the general feeling expressed throughout the country. Several business changes will be effected here January 1. Paul Tondee, assistant postmaster for the past three years, will join his father, W.T. Tondee, as a partner in the general merchantile business. Charles (Buddy) Battle, clerk at the M. and M. store here, will succeed Tondee. Joe Gettys, co-manager of Ellaville Service Station, severs connections with that establishment Saturday and will leave Sunday for Miami, Fla., where he will become manager of a chain grocery. T.H. Stevens, Jr., Gettys' partner, said Thursday he planned to assume management of the station, but was not ready to make a statement. Mrs. J.C. Chapman and Miss Myra Lowry announced Thursday they would open a dress shop in the building formerly occupied by Mrs. J.H. Robinson. A definite date had not been fixed. Business men make final checks of their books Saturday to determine how much money they made in 1938 while the younger generation shapes plans to celebrate the passing at midnight of the old year and the beginning of 1939.
