Following feedback from my previous posts (see below), I have set up a new group at groups.io to replace this Rootsweb list which will be disappearing soon. You will find the new group here - https://groups.io/g/garvin-surname AND I have set up a Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/646034242830563/ If you want to join either/both of these new groups, please go and do so, and participate in discussions there. I look forward to seeing you there. :-) Wendy Rootsweb list admin/owner ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Wendy Howard <[email protected]> Date: Sun, Feb 23, 2020 at 4:20 PM Subject: Last chance if you want this mailing list to continue at another site To: <[email protected]> The Rootsweb mailing lists will cease to function in about a week's time. If this is news to you, please read the older emails I've copied below. I've not had feedback from this list that anyone wants it to continue. You've had time to think about it now - would you like to see it continue elsewhere? Reply and let me know if you do, and I will set up a new group at groups.io - I've already done this for the groups that have responded positively. Wendy Howard List Owner/Admin ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Wendy Howard <[email protected]> Date: Sun, Jan 12, 2020 at 2:04 PM Subject: The future/fate of RootsWeb Mailing Lists You are receiving this email because you are subscribed to a Rootsweb mailing list that I administer. As you can see below, the mailing lists at Rootsweb are going to cease functioning soon. If you would like to continue being a member of some sort of group on the topic of this list, please post back to the list where you're seeing this and say so. This list is extremely quiet and rarely sees any activity. Is there any point in continuing? Have you found a better place to exchange information that you can recommend to the other members of this list? - post and tell us about it if you have. If you feel there is still a need for something, no other suggestions are put forward, and you are prepared to participate as a member, I'm willing to make an effort to create a new forum in a suitable place. I'm not going to do all the work and have not activity from its members, so do think about it before replying. Suitable places include Google Groups (which act like mailing lists and message boards combined, and you don't have to have a Google account to be there, but it helps), and Facebook. If you have another suggestion, please let me know. Please take care to ensure any replies are sent to the mailing list, not to me personally, unless there is an administrative issue you wish to raise with me. It would be nice if the list went out with a flurry of activity as we all share our latest discoveries before it is turned off. Wendy ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: RootsWeb Administration <[email protected]> Date: Wed, Jan 8, 2020 at 6:36 AM Subject: [ROOT-LO-ANNOUN] RootsWeb Mailing Lists To: <[email protected]> Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team
Thank you! I applied and I hope the answers to my questions went through, because when I went back and looked I didn’t see them there and Facebook programming is sometimes off! :) Sent from my iPhone > On Feb 24, 2020, at 12:22 AM, Wendy Howard <[email protected]> wrote: > > Following feedback from my previous posts (see below), I have set up a new > group at groups.io to replace this Rootsweb list which will be disappearing > soon. > > You will find the new group here - https://groups.io/g/garvin-surname > > AND > > I have set up a Facebook group - > https://www.facebook.com/groups/646034242830563/ > > If you want to join either/both of these new groups, please go and do so, > and participate in discussions there. > > I look forward to seeing you there. :-) > > Wendy > Rootsweb list admin/owner > > ---------- Forwarded message --------- > From: Wendy Howard <[email protected]> > Date: Sun, Feb 23, 2020 at 4:20 PM > Subject: Last chance if you want this mailing list to continue at another > site > To: <[email protected]> > > > The Rootsweb mailing lists will cease to function in about a week's time. > If this is news to you, please read the older emails I've copied below. > > I've not had feedback from this list that anyone wants it to continue. > You've had time to think about it now - would you like to see it continue > elsewhere? Hi Maura, You did just fine! There are now four members of the Facebook group, including you and me. :-) For anyone else following this discussion and not sure about it all - there are three questions you are asked to answer when you ask to join, just so I can gauge where you're coming from, and weed out the obvious spammers. Lists that don't have questions, in my experience, have problems with spammers. There are no right or wrong answers, just the truth. You'll be asked: Are you actively researching your family tree? How long have you been working on your family tree? Do you have the GARVIN name (or a variant of it) in your family tree? Very simple. :-) I do hope to see more of you there, and/or the mailing list-type group at https://groups.io/g/garvin-surname - it's your participation that will make them a success. See you there! :-) Wendy On Tue, Feb 25, 2020 at 3:34 PM Maura Black via GARVIN <[email protected]> wrote: > Thank you!
