    3. Has anyone ever turned up anything regarding the origins of William Patrick Garvin born 1831 in Orangeburg, SC, Died 1921 in Wagener, S.C. No one seems to be able to find him in the 1850 Census. I certainly ppreciate it. While Ms Hoch may have gotten the date of Henry's death rong (might she have meant 1817 rather than 1807), is the manner of his assing now in doubt also? The last time I checked Henry Garvin is not listed on the Valley Forge uster roll although his unit is listed. The only Garvins on the muster oll are a George Garvin of NJ and a Thomas Garvin of PA. There are no irvans listed. John T. Nichols anassas, VA [email protected] wrote: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. A second search on Google Books turned up a brief mention in the Appendix to he Journal of the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania -- Session 1814-15 - Receipts and Expenditures in the Treasury of Pennsylvania, etc. page 54, "1814 -- Feb. 17 Paid Henry Garvin a sum equal to one year's pension, decreed o him by the board of inquiry on this day." It's probable that Henry's granddaughter's recollection of the cause of his ntimely death is not inaccurate -- but what isn't clear is how long after his ischarge was sent to Richard Crain to be included in a pension application -- hat he died. -- Richard Cochran, Big Rapids, Michigan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Among the things got from the Pa. State Archives was this accounting for Henry Garvin's ension: MILITARY PENSION: Records of the Department of the Auditor General Pennsylvania), Military Pension Accounts and Related Papers (series 2.53), Pension Ledger, Special Acts of Assembly, 1812-1838, vol. 7, p. 05 Henry Garvin o commence from 17 Feby 1814 1814 Febry To Gratuity $40.00 815 June To 12 Mo. pension due 17 Feby last $40.00 816 Feby " " " " " inst $40.00 817 July " " " " " Feby last $40.00 818 Jany " " " " " August $20.00 818 July " " " " " Feb 1818 $20.00 819 Jany " " " " " Aug't 1818 $20.00 So my guess would be that he died either in late 1818 and the family idn't notify the authorities, thus triggering another payment in January, r else he died between January and July 1819. For my part, I'm going to check western Pa. newspapers to see if they overed Henry's drowning. I very quickly skimmed the Adams Co., Pa. ewspaper "Adams Centinel" and found one drowning reported for rederickstown, Md. on April 13, 1819 "Unfortunate Occurrence" is how they ut it. I think it's safe to say that family sources have been mined as far as hey can be -- we'll just have to be lucky if something else turns up. By the way, I have done extensive work on gathering the family of Henry nd Sarah's daughter, Sarah Ann Garvin Barnhart Misner. Both she and her ister, Mary Garvin Leiter completely eluded researchers of the past. Hope you're well. Richard > Richard, Thanks for sharing this with us Garvin descendants.
