    3. Hi Maura, You did just fine! There are now four members of the Facebook group, including you and me. :-) For anyone else following this discussion and not sure about it all - there are three questions you are asked to answer when you ask to join, just so I can gauge where you're coming from, and weed out the obvious spammers. Lists that don't have questions, in my experience, have problems with spammers. There are no right or wrong answers, just the truth. You'll be asked: Are you actively researching your family tree? How long have you been working on your family tree? Do you have the GARVIN name (or a variant of it) in your family tree? Very simple. :-) I do hope to see more of you there, and/or the mailing list-type group at https://groups.io/g/garvin-surname - it's your participation that will make them a success. See you there! :-) Wendy On Tue, Feb 25, 2020 at 3:34 PM Maura Black via GARVIN <[email protected]> wrote: > Thank you! 3. I think a Facebook group would be a good idea and very easy to administer. I run a very large worldwide Facebook group and it’s easy and takes very little time. I’m guessing that many people who do genealogy are on Facebook regardless of their age but that’s only a guess. 1. [GARVIN]DODGE - GARVIN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mr. & Mrs. Elmer DODGE and their family which was taken at the Slate Studio in Stewartville, MN sometime in the early 1900's. Pictured are the couple with 4 children, the oldest a daughter and then three boys. The youngest appears to be about 5-6 years old and the oldest in her teens or 20's. I believe that this is the family of Elmer and Clara DODGE with their children Mabel, Arthur, Earl, and Clarence. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Elmer James DODGE was b. 7 Jun 1863 in Fort Atkinson, WI to parents Arthur Toppin DODGE (1840-1914) and Amelia C. or P. ROBERTS (1843-1925). Elmer was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Elmer James; Martha Maria "Mary"; Lucius Arthur; Ada W.; Myra E.; Carrie or Cassie Winifred; Walter R.; and Paul Byron DODGE all born between 1860 and 1882. Elmer married Clara M. MAHLUM (1870-1939) and together they had four children including, Mabel Mattie; Arthur William; Earl Albert; and Clarence Elmer DODGE, all born between 1889 and 1903. Elmer died Oct 1945 in Palm Beach, FL and is buried in the Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, TX. His wife Clara was b. Feb 1870 in Clear Lake, IA to parents William MAHLUM (1841-1932) and Agnethe LARSDATTER (1837-1910). Clara was one of 5 children born to this couple including Clara M.; George B.; Alma M.; Albert; and Henry Walter MAHLUM all born between 1870 and 1880. Clara died 10 Dec 1938 in Hidalgo, TX and is buried in the same cemetery with her husband. Their daughter Mabel M. DODGE married Earl E. GARVIN (1888-1963 and she died 4 Nov 1985 and is buried in the Colonial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall, TX. Their son Arthur William DODGE was b. 25 Apr 1892 in Spring Valley, MN and married twice, first marriage was to Frances Laura COTTERMAN (1900-1936) who he married in 1922 and with who he had a daughter, Eleanor Frances DODGE (1924-1996). His second marriage was to Nelle C. WESTON (1887-1977) who he married in 1943. Arthur died 26 Nov 1977 in Pleasant Hill, CA and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston, MT. Their son Earl Albert DODGE was born in 1896 and married Mildred Alene R? (1898-1961). Earl died 22 May 1960 in Newport News, VA and is buried in the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in that city. The couple's youngest child, a son Clarence Elmer DODGE was b. 1902 and married Georgia Dodge EDWARDS CLAYTON (1913-2008) and together they had a daughter, Betty DODGE (1929-1983). Clarence was a pastor at the Southern Presbyterian Church at Amarillo, TX starting in 1949 and died in Amarillo, TX on 23 Mar 1959 and is buried in the Llano Cemetery in Amarillo as well. His obituary indicates that his wife was Esther BARROS and that they had three daughters including, Betty Ruth; Margie; and Joanie DODGE who all survived him. Garvin, born 1811. He lived in Lexington, SC. I have been unable to find any records of his birth (I'm assuming those records were destroyed during the civil war). I was wondering if you have records of Thomas' children. Was Jacob one of Thomas' sons? The other possibility is that Jacob was one of the Garvins who arrived directly in SC from Ireland. Any help figuring out this mystery would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Chris Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Its exciting meeting new family. My mother is a Garvin, her father was Orville Leroy Garvin, son of Charles Ray (Roy in the records) Garvin who was married to Addora/Adorah/Dora McClintock. George Riley Garvin July 14, 1833 in Hardwick, Caledonia, Vermont was Charles Garvin's father. If any of this sounds familiar get in touch. Good luck in your quests! Her mother is/was Janice Irene Garvin born 1940. Married to Kenneth Stuart Harris on 21 June 1958 (her father). Ken passed away on 24 Sept 1993, Janice may still be alive. My wife Kathy (Harris) O'Neal has not been in contact with Janice since 1963-64.Her father Kenneth Harris was an adopted child in Boulder Colorado in 1940. We believe he was of Sicilian descent. Obviously, we are having much difficulty in tracing her lineage beyond her parents. Any information is greatly appreciated. I'm having trouble finding information from Ireland/Scotland on the Garvins shy of the fact that many of them come from the town of Garvin. I know my gggggreat grandfather came from Ireland as an indentured servant and am eager to find more information on his patents and our Irish-Scot heritage.
