    1. [GARRISON-DNA] NEW GARRISON GROUP
    2. Yvonne Bowers
    3. Hi Listers, After much thought, I’ve decided to migrate our GARRISON and GARRISON-DNA mailing lists to groups.io. If you wish to continue our research after Rootsweb closes the lists on Mar. 2, 2020, please click the link below to subscribe to the new group. I’ve combined them into one group. Hope to see you there! Y. 1. [GARRISON-DNA] Garrison/Garretson brick walls in Rockland County, NY
    2. Ginny Garrison
    3. I recently broke through my Garrison brick wall of over 20 years using Ancestry DNA matches. William Garrison, b. abt. 1817, died 1877, husband of Barbara Blauvelt, from Clarkstown, NY, is the son of Garret Garrison and Margaret Youmans, the grandson of Joseph Garrison and Brechje Vanderbilt, all of Clarkstown, NY. If you have a brick wall in Rockland County, NY, who was born in the 1801-1835 range, they may be a son of Garret Garrison (1786-1843) and Margaret Youmans (abt 1790-1871). Apparently they did not baptise any of their children, and by the 1850 census when children were first named, Garret was dead and all of the children had left the household except their youngest, Daniel Garrison, who showed on the census with Margaret (Peggy) Garrison. Looking at the Clarkstown censuses for 1820, 1830, and 1840, Garret and Margaret apparently had eight sons, with only Daniel ever being recognized as their son by people doing genealogy research due to a lack of records. I am guessing that several Garrison brick walls in the Clarkstown, Rockland County, NY area born in the 1810-1835 range may belong to this family. If so, taking the Ancestry DNA test may help you break through your brick wall as there are a lot of descendents of Joseph Garrison (Garret's father) and Daniel Garrison (one of Garret's sons) who have taken the test and are in the database. My DNA matched descendents of Daniel and four of Joseph's other children. The age of one of Garret's children in the census data matches "my" William, and deed records further corroborate this link. I hope this is helpful to other Garrison researchers. Ginny Garrison

    1. [GARRISON-DNA] LISTMOM - SAD NEWS
    2. Yvonne Bowers
    3. Listers, A day a really didn’t think would come has come. Per the announcement below, Rootsweb is discontinuing all the mailing lists as of Mar. 2, 2020. While we haven’t had the activity lately as in the early years, we have had lots of listers who contributed, shared, helped, did lookups, and provided friendship. For me personally, I’ve been listmom since I created my lists in 1995/96 and moved them to Rootsweb in 1996. I will miss you all. Between now and March 2nd we may want to post our brick walls, ancestries, etc. and glean as much info as we can from the listers still around. The GARRISON Most Wanted Page will stay up as long as possible. Thank you all for your years of loyalty and support. Y. "From Rootsweb: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team” *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom, Boardmom, Webmom <ybowers@gmail.com> GARRISON, GARRETSON, GARRISON-DNA "Most Wanted" http://sites.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/garrison.html

    3. Adding to my original message: My direct line male GARRISON (my 3rd cousin) recently completed Big Y/111 tests at familytreedna.com <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__familytreedna.com_&d=DwIFaQ&c=kKqjBR9KKWaWpMhASkPbOg&r=PE-4nckm50nQ-iQTOTjKCagi1jJLSIKApiuja6JRm-I&m=501BCWLVNUSX9L104BPUTJeD25Ye4VTj6mMVcepyYzk&s=AA9148QBvCYeOqyQUdML6PzstzTZ6cXwcAgMdxdnXvQ&e=>. He was originally haplogroup I-M170. Snp testing classified him as I-PH2591. Big Y has now classified him as I-BY86358. My cousin matches two of our Albemarle/Stafford Co., VA. cousins at the 111 marker level. They are in process of Big Y and have been classified as I-PH2591. We are lacking the paper trail beyond my 3ggf, John GARRISON, to connect him to the rest of the “family” in VA. > On Sep 4, 2018, at 1:02 AM, garrison-dna-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Date: Mon, 3 Sep 2018 12:18:09 -0700 > From: Yvonne Bowers <ybowers@gmail.com <mailto:ybowers@gmail.com>> > Subject: [GARRISON-DNA] Calling All Albemarle Co./Stafford Co., VA. > GARRISONS > To: garrison@rootsweb.com <mailto:garrison@rootsweb.com>, garrison-dna@rootsweb.com <mailto:garrison-dna@rootsweb.com> > Message-ID: <7AC22A6C-CB31-4EED-9728-B7F9D6EACF67@gmail.com <mailto:7AC22A6C-CB31-4EED-9728-B7F9D6EACF67@gmail.com>> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > > Hi listers, > > Dio you have GARRISONS who descended from Albermarle Co. or Stafford Co., VA. specifically John b. 1740, Aaron b. 1749, William b. 1846? > > Looking for descendants of Robert Seldon GARRISON or Zachariah GARRISON? > > Still on the hunt for my elusive John GARRISON b. 1799/1800 m. 2. Kim Garrison
    3. Thank you everyone for your information. I am glad that Yvonne identified my father. I need to get his kit number from my aunt. It's great to see from the FTDNA chart that a lot of people tested with the 111 marker DNA test. My Landes family went as high as 67, but no family member tried 111. Now what do the purple, light blue and pink 2-digit squares indicate? I don't quite understand the Garrison Compass project. It sounds like all projects have now been combined or is it still separate? Is anything else needed from me or my father? Please bear with me as I am only now learning about the Garrison DNA projects. Kim D. Garrison Greetings from Weyers Cave, VA I believe the Carl Kim refers to is Carl Wister GARRISON who is a 37-marker match (genetic distance 4) to my 3rd cousin, Dana GARRISON. Both are in the GARRISON project under the Missouri GARRISONS. All of us connect back to Stafford and Albemarle County, Virginia. Carl is the uncle of another Virginia researcher that I’ve been working with daily for about a year now. He descends from Moses b. 1774 Stafford Co., VA. and is a match to my Dana. Both have done SNP tests and refined their haplogroup to PH2591.

Both are in the GARRISON project under the Missouri GARRISONS. All of us connect back to Stafford and Albemarle County, Virginia (a veritable hotbed of GARRISONS) but none of have connected definitively to my 3ggf John GARRISON b. 1799/1800 who married Elizabeth THOMPSON in Crawford Co., MO. 1826. Also in our project is Melford GARRISON whose ancestor is James Herschel GARRISON (who married Maria SULLIVAN). James and Maria had a daughter Sarah who married the son of my 3ggf John GARRISON. Dana and Melford are a 37-marker match with a genetic distance of 2. Carl is the uncle of another Virginia researcher that I’ve been working with daily for about a year now. He descends from Moses b. 1774 Stafford Co., VA. and is a match to my Dana. Both have done SNP tests and refined their haplogroup to PH2591. It appears those in the Missouri section relate back to William Henry GARRISON b. 1743 who married Duannah/Hannah ? but we’ve never proven the parentage of William. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom, Boardmom, Webmom <ybowers@gmail.com> GARRISON, GARRETSON, GARRISON-DNA "Most Wanted" http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/garrison.html Yvonne's Rootsweb Resource Page http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~yvonne/ > On Aug 17, 2017, at 12:00 AM, garrison-dna-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Message: 4 > Date: Wed, 16 Aug 2017 18:44:32 -0500 > From: Tracy garrison <tracy@lpopranch.com <mailto:tracy@lpopranch.com>> > To: <garrison-dna@rootsweb.com <mailto:garrison-dna@rootsweb.com>> > Subject: Re: [GARRISON-DNA] Virginia Garrisons > Message-ID: <005601d316e9$9c75c030$d5614090$@lpopranch.com <mailto:005601d316e9$9c75c030$d5614090$@lpopranch.com>> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > > I would love to help as I am one of the administrators of the Garrison DNA > Project (Garrison Compass). 1. [GARRISON-DNA] Albemarle/Stafford Co., Virginia GARRISONS
    2. Yvonne Bowers
    3. List, Several of us are connecting around the Stafford Co. and Albemarle Co., Virginia GARRISONS. There were very large families in the 1600’s, 1700’s and 1800’s that many of us seem to descend from. A lot of you know my search for John GARRISON b. 1799/1800 VA. d. 1883 Crawford Co., MO. Through DNA, we’ve linked to several disparate GARRISONS that have ties to these counties in VA. but we haven’t nailed down which John. Interestingly, many of you remember James Herschel GARRISON (the Ohio Towboat Captain) who married Maria SULLIVAN (Lynn Buck Garrison and Norma Rice are descendants) who’s daughter married one of my John’s sons. Turns out, a descendant of James is a 37-marker match to my GARRISON descendant but we still don’t know the parents of either James or John (definitively - there are opinions). Do you have GARRISONS in your line from VA.? Please share! Have you had ydna tests done on your male GARRISONS that may have ties to VA.? No clue too small or insignificant. Please post!
