I have very few names to go by. THe area is Cedartown, Georgia, in Polk County. This town originated as a Cherokee Indian village. Supposedly, my great, great grandfather was a Cherokee Indian Chief. I would like to found out if this is really true. Thank you, Mindy

    3. Mindy, It is next to impossible to prove Indian heritage unless you have inherited documentation.I have tryed to prove my husand's heritage for years with very little suscess. It seems folks didn't want to be know as any part Indian. They were not allowed to by land and a lot of other things.Even if they went to a reservation and are on the Dawes list you have to have proof this is your ancestor. We know his grandfather was Cherokee from his own mouth and by looking at him.Everyone who has Indian blood also has the stories of Princess or Chief in their family.I have descided just to be happy we know his heritage and let it go.I have a lot of sites and list for Indian search but with what information you have I don't think you would find anything. If you want to search just type Cherokee Indians Polk Co.? and you will find lots to keep you busy. Wish I had better hope for you, Jeany in Indiana
