Surnames: Garrison VanMeter Cowperthwaite Cleaver Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mEY.2ACEB/1943.1 Message Board Post: I too am trying to piece together the Garrison lines of Salem and Gloucester Counties NJ, 1700-1800. My line which died early--- comes down from a David (dec. 1790 with small children) & wife Hannah surname unknown >David (1789 or 1790/1814 Salem Cty NJ)& Hannah Cleaver/Clever >Isaac Clever Garrison (1812/1901)-- early baptisms are at Swedish Lutheran Church, Old Swedes, Raccoon Creek, NJ now Swedesborough-- Should you have any pieces which could help, please write. Your David Garrison often gets mixed up with mine, so clarification on your line would help. I have spoken to the cemetery fellow at the Ohio cemetery where Rebecca and David are buried, but I haven't been there yet. Do you have info on Rebecca being married before which would place this marriage record into your line? I am having to eliminate the other David Garrison's marriage records in hopes of pinpointing mine... see entry from rootsweb... "#187; David GARRISON and Jacob VANMETER, both of the County of Salem... [bound to]... William FRANKLIN, Governor... 500 pounds... 17 March 1770. ... David GARRISON... obtained license of marriage for himself and for Rebecca COPERTHWAIT of Burlington County... [w] Joseph COWPERTHWAITE, Rob't BURCHAN" I found this Cowperthwaite name around Staten Island-- I think with a Hugh Cowperthwait-- but could this be Jacob's daughter?? who had earlier married?? please let me know
