    3. Hi Nancy, Good question, I enjoyed researching this. The term 'Colville Indian' is used to refer to a member of any one (or more) of 11 tribal bands who eventually settled on the Colville Reservation, which was created in the 1880's (I think) by presidential decree. The bands united to form the Colville Confederated Tribes. The reservation itself was named after Ft. Colville, which was a British outpost in the area in the 1820's. Now whether THAT name is based on a 'Cole' in the NJ/NY area, is another question I didn't try and get to today! If you'd like more information on the Colville tribes, try www.colvilletribes.com, or do a Google search on 'colville tribe' or 'colville history.'
