I am assuming he must have gone down there to visit family. He was quite a free spirit from what my family has said, he had wanderlust in his soul they say, but I would assume since his family was with him they were most likely visiting with relatives.His sons spoke of sleeping in Indian dug outs in Oklahoma quite often so I guess that must have been where they lodged or something.
