HUNT, Professor of English, son of Henry Clay and Harriet Garrison Hunt, b. 9 Jan 1876 IA I bought an 1896 magazine entitled The Vidette. It documents the second annual Inter State Oratorical Contest. Percival Hunt is pictured along with his speech. Percival's brother Will, a member of the Chicago Tribune staff, died of pneumonia in Chicago March 3, 1913. Percival was a professor of English at Iowa State University and the University of Pittsburgh. It appears that he never married. When his mother Harriet Garrison Hunt died Jan 10, 1921, she had been living with Percival in Iowa City, IA. These are the children listed in her obit: Percival G. Hunt, Harriet Hunt Bogue (wife of George Bogue of Denver, CO), Henry Edwin Hunt of Chicago, and Harry Melendy Hunt of Waterloo, IA. According to articles in the Iowa newspapers, Percival traveled to England and studied at Oxford, and also traveled to Barbados. I believe this magazine would be a valuable piece of history for a family member or family researcher. Please contact me if you have an interest in this photo and article.
