Was he visiting family and if so who were they. I have a James A.R. Garrison b:SC 1820, parents born SC. Census records have him in Marshall Co. MS in 1860 & 1870 in Tippah Co. MS. 1880 living in Denton Co.TX. Children are: Margaret, JAMES K.P., Joseph, Montry, WILLIAM, SAMUEL, WHITE & Walter. Since his children's names are very prominent in the Garrison line, I would think there must be a connection. I do not know when or where he died, although I would assume it was Denton Co., as he is not in the 1900 census I would assume his death occured before then and TX did not require death certificates prior to 1900. So other then the dna I don't really know how to trace back to his parents or siblings. If you or anyone else has any info on this James A.R. Garison I would greatly appreciate it.

    3. Swain is located in Newton Co. AR, I located Ira on the 1910,1920 & 1930 just by searching Ancestry. He's located in Lincoln twp, Newton Co. on the 10 & 30 I didn't locate them on the 1900 in AR, they should have been here, due to Myrtle being 11 on the 1910 and having AR. for a place of birth. You might want to just do a page by page for the twp. 1920 Hudson, Newton, Arkansas different twp, but suspect it's the same location and lines moved. 1910 Newton Co. Father was Pleas G. 33 mother Amanda 33 MO,KY,TN Myrtle 11 AR, TN, AR Rufus 9 AR, MO,AR Ira 6 ' ' Oda 4 " " Ida 1 1920 Household has parents of Ples G. & Manda also living with them is a married daughter by the name of: Myrtle Ross and all of the children under her are also listed as Ross. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mEY.2ACEB/212.217.223.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I got an email from Ancestry about an inquiry I had made quite some time ago. I have a few questions about the Garrison name in Arkansas. My grandfather, who I never met, was named Ira Garrison. He lived in or around a place called Swain, Ark. My grandmother left Arkansas with her kids to come live in Virginia in the 1930's. My dad always said he was 8 years old when his dad left them, and he was born in 1927. I have a copy of my father's birth certificate. He was delivered by a midwife. I know that his dad's name was Ira and he lived in Arkansas until his death in the early 80's. My father's name was Dolphus and he never would contact Ira or allow any of us to contact him. He had no use for the man because of the way he was abandoned. The old Dallas Cowboys football player Walt Garrison looks like the spitting image of my dad when he was younger. I believe he was from somewhere in Oklahoma. Anything you might know would be helpful to me. I was contacted by someone a few years ago in Norman, Ok. that said her uncle was somehow related. I never really followed up though. Thanks for your help, Bobby Garrison
