Very new at the genealogy quest here. I am a descendent of one of the Isaac Garrisons, Freeborn Garrison, and several others down the line from those who began the westward trend to Indiana, Ohio and points beyond. Wondering if your roots are the same or similar. It seems as if there is a "southern" movement and a gradual westward movement, as well. My grandfather, Lester Irwin Garrison settled in Kansas eventually. Currently, I am seeking information regarding a rumor that 3 Garrison brothers, probably originating from somewhere in France going the same route as many, spent about 10 years in Holland where they married 3 Dutch princesses and then continued to what likely became known as Garrison's Landing. In any case, I have a small collection of info gathered in the last year or so. If you have some gaps in your research or a great mystery such as mine, perhaps I can help.If so, contact me freely. Sincerely, R.D. Garrison Vancouver, USA
Just a hint, don't waste time pursuing the "Civil Occupation" of Tractor Driver or Truck Driver. My father was listed as "Mechanic." Not only was he not a mechanic, he didn't even drive! I then noticed that all of my family members who were processed through the same location were "mechanics." I am a Garrison by birth and have many nieces and nephews.I come from a large family of 12.I was curious as to your message because my oldest brother was in an orginazation called the CCC during the depression years. It was a government run organization and these boys lived in camps and money was sent home for their work. They cleared woods, built bridges etc and were payed by the government.I think this was for families who were poor.Anyway my brother Bill was in a camp in Wisconsin.I was born in 1941 and my name is Sandra Jean.My mother said I was named for Bill's girl friend in Wisconsin.I have met another of his daughters in the last few years. Her name is also Sandra and she was told the same story. Her mother told her that Bill had a daughter in Wisconsin. So I wondered if maybe your James could be a descendant? This is a long shot I know but if you would like to exchange some photos I would be glad to send you some Garrisons. If you don't find a family you are welcome to become one of ours.Mom always said there was room for one more and we have many.I have a lot of Garrison research but you don't have much to go on.Is your mother alive? Is James Garrison all that is on your birth certificate? I have a site for Garrisons most wanted if you would like to submit your quest.I you would like to correspond I will be glad to exchange emails.I'll help in anyway possible. BTW, my brother has submitted his DNA to the Garrison project..so ...if you have any direct line male Garrisons who decide to submit DNA, as an aside we would see if Edmund (son of Paul and my ggg grandfather) matches your Shadrach Garrison! Marti
Hi! So you have a copy of the bond document that Shadrach signed for the marriage of Susanna King and Benjamin Garrison? It was has been believed that Benjamin was Shadrach's son! Garrison genealogist Sam Garrison (who died a year ago in April) believed that my Paul GArrison...also in Barren Co., Ky., had a son Benjamin..but I have not proven that..he did have 3 boys under 16 in his Pendleton Co., SC 1790 census. Very interesting that he signed that "his oncle." What makes you think that Benjamin is a son of James Garrison? Sam always believed that Shadrach was a son of my Paul Garrison until maybe 6 months before he died when he decided Shad was his. I asked him why and he had no new evidence. Just thought he was. He always liked Shad...said he wished he was in his line....... I thought it possible that Shadrach WAS a son of Paul's because Paul had a half brother Shadrach and I thought naming a son for his brother would be likely. He also came to Barren Co., Ky., where Paul and his son Edmund were living. Paul paid taxes on the land in 1804 or 06...and Edmund paid taxes on it in 1810. There was a couple living in Edmund's household of an age to be his parents...And in 1820 Paul was living next door to Edmund in Smith Co., Tn. census. A cousin, Karen, told me about the Walker Line, the boundary line between Kentucky and Tennessee and how often it was moved, and that perhaps Paul and Edmund did not move at all from Barren Co., but the Walker Line moved and put them in Smith Co. I have not had time to follow up on this. Sam also told me once that I was related to a James GArrison........but I don't know about that either......... Why do you think this Mark Garrison is actually Shadrach and where did you find him and when was it? I am very interested in all this and hope to hear from you re: Shad.......Perhaps I am wrong about Shadrach being Paul's son....I have not found anything to say one way or the other...... but I sure am interested! Thanks! Marti
