I am assuming he must have gone down there to visit family. He was quite a free spirit from what my family has said, he had wanderlust in his soul they say, but I would assume since his family was with him they were most likely visiting with relatives. His sons spoke of sleeping in Indian dug outs in Oklahoma quite often so I guess that must have been where they lodged or something. I wish I could help you but that is all I know

How can we help each other. In the 1830 Census for Mason County, Ky there James, Alexander, Samuel, Elijah and George. On all the information I have James and Maria were born in VA. Did the parents come from NC? This would be a HUGE help if we can figure out their parents. Please email me at lbeargarrison@hotmail.com and we can compare/share notes. Thanks, Lynn

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Garrison Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.garrison/3512/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am stumped. My 4g grandfather is James Garrison born in 1798( -)in VA. He married Maria Catherine Sullivan, in 1825 in Mason County, KY. In the 1830 census there is a James Garrison, Alexander Garrison, George Garrison, Samuel Garrison, and Elijah Garrison in Mason County, KY. I know that my James named his sons Elijah, Alexander, and George. I'm thinking that the other Garrisons in Mason Cty, Ky in 1830 were his brothers, my question is who are the parents of this group of Garrisons. All I have is that James came from VA and the thought is that his father may have been a James as well. But I have nothing to substantiate that. HELP!!

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hunt, Garrison, Bogue Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.garrison/3511/mb.ashx Message Board Post: PHOTO & Article: Percival G. HUNT, Professor of English, son of Henry Clay and Harriet Garrison Hunt, b. 9 Jan 1876 IA I bought an 1896 magazine entitled The Vidette. It documents the second annual Inter State Oratorical Contest. Percival Hunt is pictured along with his speech. Percival's brother Will, a member of the Chicago Tribune staff, died of pneumonia in Chicago March 3, 1913. Percival was a professor of English at Iowa State University and the University of Pittsburgh. It appears that he never married. When his mother Harriet Garrison Hunt died Jan 10, 1921, she had been living with Percival in Iowa City, IA. These are the children listed in her obit: Percival G. Hunt, Harriet Hunt Bogue (wife of George Bogue of Denver, CO), Henry Edwin Hunt of Chicago, and Harry Melendy Hunt of Waterloo, IA. According to articles in the Iowa newspapers, Percival traveled to England and studied at Oxford, and also traveled to Barbados. I believe this magazine would be a valuable piece of history for a family member or family researcher. Please contact me if you have an interest in this photo and article.
