    1. [GARRISON] Bertha Garrison tie to Parkers of Oklahoma/Cherokee
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kplatz251 Surnames: Garrison, Parker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.garrison/3531/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm looking for family and information on relatives and ancestors of the follwing Parker family. They are Cherokee who came together near Lake Tenkiller, Oklahoma. I'm working on the family tree of a living son, grandson and granddaughter of Stella Savada Parker (see Stella daughter below in 1910 census info.) b: OK; d: MO. Father: Eli Parker Born: about 1870 in Kentucky Mother: Lee ?? and I believe her first name may be incomplete. Born about 1892 in Oklahoma but her father was born in Arkansas and her mother in Missouri. Eli and Lee were married about 1901. In 1910 they were raising 5 children at home but it is very likely that Lee was only the birth mother of the youngest. Fred abt. 1892; Bertha abt. 1894; Marvis (sp?) abt. 1902; Stella 1904; and Jetty 1910. All of the children were born in Oklahoma. In 1910, the family lived in Cherokee County Oklahoma, Peggs Township. In 1920, Eli, Lee, Jetty 9, Dolly 8, and Jessie 7 were living in Arkansas City, Kansas, Cowley County where Eli was still residing in 1934. At least three of his children, however, stayed in Oklahoma, in Pawhuska, Osage County. His daughter Bertha Garrison nee Parker; and sons, Dewey Parker and George Parker (neither sons appear on census records for 1910 or 1920 so they may have been first born to another mother and perhaps outside Oklahoma). In the 1920 census, Eli and Lee also have a daughter Dolly born abt. 1911/1912 and a daughter Jessie born about 1912/1913 although these may not be their given names. Eli's daughter Bertha MAY have married a J. Marlin or Marlon Garrison of Pawhuska and Haskell Oklahoma. If so, she had a son Lee Roy who died in 1951 at age 38 and a daughter Lola Elnora Eicher nee Garrison who died in 2000. If this is the correct Bertha, she has living daughters, a son, grandchildren and other relatives living in: Cleveland, Oklahoma; Oglesby, Oklahoma; Owasso, Oklahoma; Dewey, Oklahoma; and Waynona Oklahoma. Stella's family does not have a photo of her (she died when the son was 4), and they know virtually nothing about their Parker branch. Does anyone have a connection to my Parkers or to my Garrison, or have information to share? Does anyone know if Bertha Parker married Marlon Garrison? Author: pjoyhaynes Surnames: Garrison Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.garrison/3530/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Here's a new twist. I bought Herman's Ferguson's Mecklenburg Co. NC deed book 1831-1850 and found the following reference to Isaac Garrison. Bk. 25, page 9; 31 Oct 1832 Sheriff John Sloan, in execution of a writ of Venditioni Exponas against the property of Charity Garrison for the sum of $14.10 which sum was recovered by Dr. Pinckney C. Caldwell. Accordingly the sheriff sold 23 A that the sd Charity had inherited from her ancestor Isaac Garrison for $101 to John C. Garrison on 21 Aug 1832. Wit: None. In another deed dated 2 Mar 1830, it appears Charity Garrison was the infant daughter of Isabella Garrison who was deceased. Somehow this branch of Garrisons must be descendants of Isaac Garrison. 1. [GARRISON] GARRISON Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Rita GARRISON ESTEP which was taken at the Cradick Studio in Danville, Indiana. The photograph was taken in the 1880's with Rita likely in her teens or 20's at the time. I'm thinking that GARRISON is likely her maiden name and ESTEP her married name, but I could be wrong and GARRISON simply a middle name. Thanks to the help of a GARRISON Family Researcher I know the following additional information regarding this family. I believe that this is a photograph of Orrel Maritta GARRISON daughter of Alva Curtis GARRISON and Mary Jane INGRUM who were married 7 Nov 1865 in Coles County, IL. She married Evan Wesley ESTEP in 1891, likely in IL. There is some indication that she may have first been married to someone with the surname ROBINSON. She had two brothers, Charles B. GARRISON b. 1868 in Coles County, IL and Thomas E. GARRISON b. 1871 also in Coles County, IL. It is believed that Rita and her husband Evan did not have any children of their own, but did adopt a native american child, naming her Mary Josephone ESTEP who was 9 years old in 1920. Both Evan and Rita were Supt. Of Indian Schools. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this beautiful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Mary's brother William was listed as 6', fair, light Hair, hazel Eyes on enlistment in Co. H of the 8th MO. Cavalry. Greenberry & Mary's family was listed as white on the 1860 census. John George's Death Certificate (I have a copy) lists him as white. Of course, that isn't proof but either is family legend. If John George was half-Native American, that means his mother, Mary would have been full. I doubt that is the case. But you never know.
