All of books have been sold. There was also a supplement written in 1983 but not many copies were published. They are all gone also. The Isaac Garrison Family Association is now taking orders for a new set of two books that are to be printed as soon as we get enough pre-orders. The books include the families that were in the original book that was published in 1980. We made any corrections that we were aware of and added all of the new Garrison descendants that we have been fortunate enough to locate since the 1980 book. There will be almost 1,000 pages which will be put into two books. There is over 28,000 descendant of Isaac Garrison (1732-1836), spouses of the descendant and the parent of the spouses. Do you have Census Records that you could point me to or send along to me that we could research for similiarities in the family? She and I have both located a 5 times great grandfather who served in the Rev War and our documentation has been verified by the DAR. I recently caught a break after a visit to the Library of Virginia, and through a variety of records, believe that Robert may be the grandson of John Garrison, the Revolutionary War veteran. (Source of the following information in this paragraph is the memoirs of John Rowzee Garrison Jr, US Treasury Comptroller): John, who married Betty Ennis, had five sons: Jesse, John (m. Jemima Unknown), Moses, James, and William. I believe most or all of them fought in the War of 1812. Moses married Nancy Atchison and they had several sons, among them John Rowzee Garrison. I am taking a leap (through information in the Lib of VA and other records) that Moses's brother James could be the father of my Robert. A rich selection of documents and images portray American family life from the early nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century. The main themes of the exhibit are family life, social awareness and reform, arts and leisure, and work." "Five generations of the Garrison and related families are represented in this collection. The patriarch, William Lloyd Garrison (1805-1879), radical abolitionist and social reformer, edited the influential Liberator between 1831 and 1865. His sons William Lloyd, George Thompson, Wendell Phillips, and Francis Jackson carried on his specific reforms and general activism. William Lloyd Garrison (1838-1909) married Ellen Wright in 1864. She was the daughter of Martha Coffin Wright who (with her sister Lucretia Coffin Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Jane Hunt, and Mary Ann McClintock) organized the 1848 Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York. The Coffin and Wright families are strongly represented in the Garrison Family Papers. William Lloyd Garrison (1838-1909), along with his brothers, sisters, associates, and friends, became involved in the last stages of abolition and then in movements for freedmen's welfare, women's rights, free trade, socialism, the single tax, anti-imperialism, immigration reform (especially for the Chinese), anti-vaccination, and anti-vivisection. Like her mother Martha Coffin Pelham Wright (1806-1875), Ellen Wright Garrison (1840-1931) was an advocate of women's rights, especially woman suffrage. Her daughter, Eleanor Garrison (1880-1974), carried on the family fight for women's rights as a paid organizer for the National American Woman's Suffrage Association." Author: Marianne_Vol_Researcher Surnames: Garrison Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.garrison/3552/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Eau Claire Argus Eau Claire, Wisconsin June 5, 1879 William Lloyd Garrison died in the city of New York on Saturday, May 24th. His body was removed to Roxbury, Connecticut, where it was interred on Tuesday, the 27th. The following brief sketch of his life was copy from the St. Paul Pioneer: William Lloyd Garrison was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, in 1804. He learned the printer's trade, and in 1828 was printing a journal in Bennington, Vermont, which advocated the abolition of slavery with other reforms. He attracted the attention of Benjamin Lundy, who was agitating gradual emancipation, and the two united the next year in the publication of the Genius of Universal Emancipation at Baltimore. His views were much in advance of Mr. Lundy's, and an address in the Park street church, Boston, the same year, marked him as the first uncompromising abolitionist. A year later he was fined and imprisoned for libel in attacking the slave trade, and his connection with Lundy was dissolved. Then he delivered anti-slave lectures for a year or two. In 1831, he commenced the publicationif the Liberator in Boston, and the serious agitation of the abolition of slavery. This was the beginning o his time of trial. Poverty, anxiety, ostracism, abuse, threats, danger, were the! constant atmosphere in which he lived. But he began to see the fruits of his labors. In 1832 he organized the New England anti-slavery society, published Thoughts on Universal Emancipation, and made a trip to England to place himself in sympathy with the antislavery movement there. In 1835, he was mobbed in the streets of Boston for trying to address an anti-slavery meeting and dragged to the city hall with a rope around his neck. He continued to be the most prominent American abolitionist, and in 1843, he was chosen president of the world's anti-slavery society. At intervals he lectured and published books. It is notable that he always agitated abolition by the consent of the slave-owners, and when he became convinced that this was impossible, advocated the dissolution of the Union. This was his position for some years before 1861. The emancipation proclamtion, induced by the war, accomplished the work to which he had devoted his whole life, but the means were undreamed o! f by him. His heroic days ended with the stoppage of the Liberator in 1865. He was an agitator, with the faults as well as the virtues of the class.
