This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: red1403 Surnames: Garrison Mitchell Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.garrison/3558.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John Wesley GARRISON, Jr. Visitation and Funeral Services Schedule 14 October 2007- Visitation Services, Sunday afternoon, 3 PM- 6 PM on the north side of Springfield, at: Third Presbyterian Church Brent Mitchell , Pastor 1030 North 7th Street Springfield, IL 62702 (217) 528-0457 http://www.third-presbyterian.org/ 15 October 2007- Funeral Services, Monday morning, 9:00 AM (as per the church but I thought the funeral home said 9:30.so ??) -10:30 AM, Third Presbyterian Church, north side of Springfield (same location as above) This Presbyterian church where John Wesley GARRISON, Jr's services will be held is about ten miles from Camp Butler National Cemetery. Camp Butler cemetery said that they are hopefully awaiting final paperwork - so still in progress- and that they should know an answer as to his internment scheduling, if phoned about 3 PM on Friday. So a few details will surely come together for John in the next few days. The very helpful funeral home located about six miles from Glenarm, IL is: Staab Polk Memorial Home Inc 201 S Main St Chatham, IL 62629 (217) 483-9292 The woman at Staab Polk funeral home mentioned that a major fire in St. Louis, Missouri had destroyed many veteran service records, which was a factor in complicating John's military service paperwork. Staab Polk is hoping that the family is able to finalize the still missing pieces of paperwork today. The kind woman at the church explained the directions as follows-but you will need to make corrections and modifications to my notes-she explained (I think- I have not verified this): On the north side of Springfield, the church is located one block south of North Grand, on 7th Street. If on I-55, Exit Sangamon Ave exit, at the 100 mile marker-take Sangamon to 8th Street, going west, then turn south on 8th Street, and stay on 8th until North Grand.go west 1 block to 7th, south on 7th If you head out to say a tearful goodbye to John Wesley GARRISON, Jr (died 6 October 2007)...the church recommended a nearby new hotel/motel, in North Springfield- Northfield Inn, 217/523-7900- which is about 15-20 minutes from Third Presbyterian Church- the inn warned that they have 300 kids staying there Sunday night-- but they do offer a special bereavement rate (about $79/night) so be sure to ask... Thank you Ken for your kind words. It was because of the 1980 book published by The Isaac Garrison Family Association that I was able to find my connection to this Garrison Family. So I certainly think it was a great help for me. I know the new books will help many many people. Thank you for the good suggestions on how we can get the news out about the books. I will answer your questions as best as I can. I am just a member of The Isaac Garrison Family Association. I am not on the Board of Directors that make the decisions. I was just a volunteer that agreed to contribute my research to the book. Four other ladies and I did it as volunteers hoping that it would help others. As far as I know the Association does not have a web site. I wish that they did. I think it would be a very, very good idea. The address that you found in Kentucky is probably the one for Edwanna Chenault who is the Executive Secretary for the Association. If a person wants to join The Isaac Garrison Family Association they would write to her at: The Isaac Garrison Family Association %Edwanna Garrison Chenault 5567 Ecton Road Winchester, KY 40391 The address that is in Springfield, Missouri is for Renee Glass who is the Treasurer. She is collecting the money for the new book orders. Isaac Garrison is buried near Springfield, Missouri and every other summer the Association has a reunion in Springfield. I do think that they discussed making it available on CD but decided against it. The CD that will be included has photos and will also have a section about our military Garrisons. Glenda, I also want to thank you for your hard work in putting this book together! I know how valuable the previous edition was and I'm excited to see an updated edition! A couple of suggestions: 1) Does the Isaac Garrison Family Association have a web site? That would certainly help in getting word out about the book as well as being a point of interest for those researching the Garrisons. The only thing I could find on the web was a postal address in Kentucky but I assume even that must be outdated since the address you gave for ordering the book was in Springfield, MO. 2) Have you thought about also making the new edition available on CD so that one could easily do a computer search of both volumes? That would really add to the usefulness of the material! Maybe you could even make it an extra option avaiable to those who purchase the printed version. Thanks, Ken Kenneth J. Melba, I am sorry but I do not see any of your names in the information that I have. But I do not have all of the information that is in the new books. The Isaac Garrison Family Association is taking pre publishing orders now and until a certain number of the books are sold the publisher will not print them. The publisher wants paid first before printing. There were four other ladies and myself that contributed information to the book and I do not know what their records show and I do not have a way of checking yet. But there is over 28,000 individuals in the book so it is possible that your family could be there. Sorry that I could not be more help. Please don't worry about it. We all make mistakes. Are you doing any lookups?? For years we have been trying to find proof of Margaret Garrison's lineage and marriage. She was born in TN, 1822, died in Tulare,CA 1887. We have been told she married John Christian. We have 2 sons' death records which verify thus much. We have been told she was the daughter of John & Elizabeth (Irvin) Garrison of Rhea Co., TN. Can you help? Thanks much. Melba

Glenda, Please don't apologize. We are all very grateful for the work that went into the book. For the future (for anyone), if you simply say the book is available and ask people to contact you if interested (without mentioning the price or attaching an order form) you will be fine. Hello Everyone, I am the one that posted the message about the new Garrison book that is an update to the original book published by the Isaac Garrison Family Association in 1980. I am sorry but I did not know that I was doing anything wrong. I had volunteered 1,000s of hours to help gather information for the new books and I thought that I was doing a favor to the Garrison researchers by telling them about the book as there is over 28,000 individuals listed in the book. I do not make one single penny on the sale of the books. All of my work is and was volunteer. The Isaac Garrison Association is a non-profit organization. Daphne, Please contact me about the new Garrison book. I thought that many Garrisons would be happy to know that a new book was available but Rootsweb removed my messages.
