Hello Joe; Oh, if only real proof could be found. With several of each of John, James, Joseph, David, Daniel and George, and ever so many families following the same routes over the mountains it is a wonder that any of us find our direct ancestors ancestors. The kind of proof I look for is almost anything other than published or unpublished genealogies. This could be government documents, church records, newspapers, legal papers, family bibles, personal letters, business records, etc. Too many family trees are based on some one making a bad guess, and then this information is copied many hundred of times which then makes some people think that it must be fact. (It is all over the Internet!) The records must also make sense. A very nice lady provided a will as proof of parentage which only required me to believe that James's mother gave birth to him when she was almost 70. I also know that proof will not always be found. There is nothing wrong with using words like probably, might be, or about. I am off on a rant again. Sorry. Joe D Garrison
may i ask what kind of proof would you like ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe D Garrison" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 03, 2004 7:53 PM Subject: Re: [GARRISON] descendent of Samuel Sr. and jr.??? > Charles E Garrison > Being from Mt. Charles E Garrison Being from Mt. Vernon I was sure this line would cross mine but I have never found any proof of this. I show this line going back to Guillaume De Garrisson and Anne De Verdie in Montaban, France cira1552-1582. Because I never made a connection to this line (many people show a connection but none of them have any proof) I have never verified any of it. I should know you. Joe D Garrison

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mEY.2ACEB/1708.2.2 Message Board Post: Kim and Rebekah, I am sorry that I had to move my online Clark/ston book. Familytreemaker site failed to upload and display. I had no choice. You can now access it at this clickable URL; http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/v/a/n/Gloria-kay-Vandiverinman/ I would like to caution you that the folk lore that Nellie Feathers was the dau of Big Feathers is just that. Something that SOMEONE said, and has been picked up by many, many other individuals and taken as gospel. After years and years of research, I have not found any evidence to substantiate this. As a matter of fact, it may well be possible that she was related to the Lawrence and Barbara Feathers of Sullivan Co, Tennessee, who were performing land transactions in Lee Co, VA about the same time. Also, take the time to review the "Feathers" genforum, particularly "re: John L. Feathers / Sullivan Co, TN" by Allen Edwin Feathers, dated Sep 2001 (a partial extract is quoted in my online Clark/ston book cited above) If anyone has any documentation to prove or disprove Nellie's parentage, I would dearly love to see it. Thanks Gloria Kay Vandiver Inman
