Thanks for the reply Daphne, I have a lot of information about the Garrisons who were in Warren Co,Ohio but can not get proof of the family of Robert my ggrandfather.Since he was married in 1847 he wouldn't have been in his parents home when they started naming children in 1850.I rescently got a census from Warren Co,Ohio 1850 that gave I beleive James Garrison with wife Susannah and a small daughter Margaret. It is possible his name could have been James Robert. The ages were right and my grandad named one of his daughters Margaret. All of the "ifs and maybes" I have are just that.If you would like more of them I would be glad to share. My Great, GreatGrandmother' maiden name was - as she said on four legal docunments - GARRISON, not Hardin And, she married James (no middle initial) McCanless - not the oft-posted James Madison McCanless, born in 1821 (less than age 9 when my G, G, Grandparents married in 1830. But the Myth continues to be posted on the internet!!! Yes, Delila was a Murphy.before she married William Black. Jerome Black was Sheriff of Leon County, TX on two different occasions - his 1st wife, Elizabeth (Parks of Jackson Co Ala), was buried in Liberty Cemetery in Leon Co. (three rows from my McCanless/Reeder/Durant ancestors) Later, he married Julia Lacey. I have not found grave markers for Jerome, his brothers and sisters, or his Mother - but Gavin S. Black has a son buried in Russell Cemetery in Leon Co - the only inscribed marker in a group of several brown, native, stones in that cemetery. (very near some Durant graves!) Have more info on Delila's children who came to Leon Co TX. And other families who came from Marshall/Jackson Co area to settle in Leon Co TX - Bain, Jetton and Dickey. >Theora Garrison Whitlock. Ring any bells? Dad used to talk >about a cousin Creed) Could that cousin your father talked of bee "REED"? My ggrandparents went from Warren Co.,Ohio to Peoria Co,Illinois around 1850.There my grandad was born and his name was Reed born 1952.I have tried to find this family and found an older Reed possibly his grandfather who went to Illinois after 1860.My grgrandfather disappeared in Indiana after 1852 and his wife remarried in 1857.I have found Robert Garrison and Susannah Smith's marriage in Warren Co.,Ohio 1947 but their parents are not named. That is about all I have for facts. Jeany Roark; Thanks for your reply. The name is Creed but there are also Reids and Reeds married-in. I have to get back to you on that. Jane McIrvin, my double cousin lives down there also. I'll bounce it off her memory, too. Daphne
To all: I received this message from a cousin (her father and mine were brothers). Can anybody offer information on this Garrison line?? Thank you. Daphne N. Richey (nee Garrison) >> Message from Marjorie (Garrison)Shandro<< I was browsing thru the Washington Post web-site the other day and came across a list of all the American soldiers killed in Iraq. There was a Garrison on the list - Sgt. Landis W Garrison from Rapids City, Illinois. He was in the 333rd Military Police in the Illinois National Guard and he was only 23, I think. He died of gunshot wounds in that prison we heard so much about earlier this year. It was rather odd. It wasn't clear what happened. <Clip> I didn't get all this from the Washington Post but from various Illinois papers. Anyway the boy's father was named Randy. (Incidentally there was a Vanda Landis -born 1900, died 1937- who was the daughter of Creed and Theora Garrison Whitlock. Ring any bells? Dad used to talk about a cousin Creed)

It is unlikely that Delilah's father was David Simpson BLACK. Delilah was born in 1806 and therefore unlikely the daughter of "Polly" who married David in 1825. My line is Delilah's daughter Martha Caroline BLACK Morgan.

Hi List, Here are two additions to the NYG&B Record Vol. 124 article (July 1993), "The Garrison-Gerritsen and Segers Descendants of Gerrit Segers." p.141. The baptism of another child of Frederick, son of Gerrit Segers, has been found: vii. Jan, bap. 19 Sept 1699 to Frederick Gerritse and wife at the First Reformed Church - Raritan (Somerville). I think this is online. The second addition was found by Warren Rule and removes the question mark after the name of the sixth child of Frederick, p. 141, " vi. Frederick(?)." Mr. Rule said that while studying the old court records in the Archives Dept. of the Salem County Court House (NJ), he found in the August Term 1753 on p. 382: "Joshua Garrison exhibeted (sic) into Court a petition for the children of Elizabeth Garrison of Pilesgrove that their Mother should be maintained Ordered....that Frederick Garrison pay weekly toward the maintenance of their .... Mother the sum of two Shillings and Seger Garrison One shilling and Six Pence and Joshua Garrison One Shilling..." Thus we now know that these were the sons of the Frederick Garrison, Jr. who died intestate in Salem Co., NJ in 1749 with administrator Joshua Garrison. Hope this helps someone. Phyllis J. Miller

In my files, I just found several well documented, typed pages prepared by (her stamp in top right corner) Ms. Blanche O. Garrison, of ___ E. Eleventh St., Bartlesville, OK about 19__ , which explain in detail about wife Mary. These papers were copied by me from bulging files, at the genealogy-oriented, Clayton Library in Houston TX. The BILLEW or BOILEAU family is referenced as being on separate sheets, so I know I don't have Blanche's entire research work... Briefly, Blanche cites research that Mary was ??? perhaps, nee Mary STILLWELL??. This Mary _________ first married Nathaniel Britton II, then second, married a Mr. DUCHESNE (also spelled DUCHAN in 1708 document, and referred to as surname, DuChesne, in about 1916). This same Mary _________ DuChesne, then third (before May 4, 1716), married a Lambert GARRETSON, Esquire, who appears to be Lambert GARRISON with will proved 22 May, 1725. I hope that you are a descendant of Lambert GARRISON, since I need to get introduced to some living male descendants of this Gerrit SEGERS line. (Other lines are needed too...). The DNA GARRISON surname project which just started can enable us to find out if our line matches up, via Y chromosones, or not with Lambert's line. Let me know if you need more info on this. Please email me... Go to www.familytreedna.com for info...My NJ>OH line may ?? descend from Lambert's brother, Frederick GARRISON (died abt 1729) . Another Frederick Garrison (died abt 1767) had a son David (and 4?other sons) around Pilesgrove, Salem County, NJ, born abt 1752?...DNA is our only hope, for our David GARRISON and wife Hanna __________ (maiden surname unknown)>David GARRISON (1789/1814 Salem County NJ) line. Susannah MORGAN was I believe Lambert's first wife.

My Earliest Garrison line is Peter Garrison, born in Canada in 1823. The family moved to Jefferson County ,NY. Peter would be my ggg- Grandfather.
