    3. Elizabeth & Sharon, et al, In my researches, I have seen the name spelled Garagan, Garaghan, Gargan & Garragan, as well as Garrigan. In the past, spelling was not as standardized as it is today. Interestingly enough, my ancestor is Catherine Garrigan also! But, my Catherine came to the US by 1834. Her brother James was born in Canada in 1836. Don't forget that the Irish (esp. Catholics) often named all their girls Mary, then referred to them by their middle names. So, you may be looking for (officially) Mary Catherine Anne Garrigan/Gargon/Garaghan. Does your Catherine's marriage record give her parents names? Oftentimes it will, here in the States, tho it depends on the state. Or, if they were married in church, the church record may have additional information, including witnesses, who sometimes are relatives. And, I have found, in Catholic Church records, sometimes the parish where the person was born! Because the priest had to send back to that parish for sacramental records before performing the marriage. Hope this helps! Happy Hunting! Thank you for writing. Write again, we are stuck on so many of our family, it is hard not to be sad about it. I have had no real luck searching for my great grandmom "Catherine Anne Gargon" . She was born November, c. 1866, in Ireland, or was of Irish decent. She lived in Liverpool and was married to William Edmund Waters. Both died in Liverpool (1935-1941?). They lived at 4 Whiteford Street, W. Derby at least in 1901 when my Nan, Elsie Waters (later married Reg Smith) was born. > > > > Have any of you come across this name in your searches? > > > > ============================== > > The RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: > > Tens of millions of individuals... and counting. > > http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ > > ============================== > Free Web space.
