Dear family, the mystery is solved after 200 years. Governor James Garrard of Stafford County, VA and Rev. John Gerard of Berkeley County, W. VA are not related. The results came back negative. It is kind of a let down because all these years there has been that family myth that Col. William Garrard and Rev. John Gerard may have been brothers and got it to some dispute and Rev. John was so mad that he changed the spelling of his name. Well the myth is now broken forever! The Good news about that is people just starting family trees now know they are really different lines.
