This is probably the James A. Garrard married to Martha Young. Found in the Todd County census 1870, and also mentioned in Anna Russell des Cognets' book. Children match up. I show his parents as James Garrard and Sarah Reeder. A. Garrard. The 1860 censes of Todd County, had him living in Elkton at 41 years of age (making him born abt. 1819), and married to a M. A. Garrard, age 34 (born abt. 1826), children: J. D. male, age 12, (born abt. 1848) G. R. male, age 11, (1849), A. M. female, age 9 (1851), C. G. male, age 6, (1954), M. E. female, 1, (1859). I hope it helps.
