Hi All: I'm getting bounce notices from Rootsweb for subscribers to various lists. Why? Because their mail boxes are full. So, I can't email them privately to let them know. Please make sure you don't let your mail boxes fill up to capacity so that you wind up being bounced off a Rootsweb list. Thanks, Sandi List mom
I am the great-granddaughter of Lucinda Garrard Tarr, which makes me 6 generation granddaughter to James Garrard. I still live in KY, Lexington, and one day want to go see the Garrard place in Bourbon Co. Paula
Has anyone done any research on Lucy Burnham Lees? She was the second wife of Theophilus Toulmin Garrard. I have done some hunting on who her parents were but my findings were not conclusive. Jill Davidson
Yes on both sides. James Garrard James Garrard Thomas Lewis Garrard Richard Francis Garrard Margaret Picket Garrard Lucie Burnham Garrard Kramer Garrard Parfitt Kramer me or James Garrard Daniel Garrard Theophilus Toulmin Garrard Edward Gibson Garrard Lucie Burnham Garrard Kramer Garrard Parfitt Kramer me I have been documenting from me back mostly; because so much of Daniel's line is pretty well documented. It was tougher when I lived in MA, NY, VA etc. But I think it will be easier now that I am closer to the action, so to speak. -Cynthia >From: "Sandi C." <redfox5@sbcglobal.net> >Reply-To: garrard@rootsweb.com >To: garrard@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [GARRARD] Short DNA Break down in the World >Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2006 20:34:57 -0700 (PDT) > >Cynthia: > >No problem with the lurking. Hi Sug: I can't wait for the snow to fly here in the California mountains. We are just above that huge Day Fire here in the Los Padres Nat'l Forest that started on Labor Day. It hasn't been fun wondering if we are going to have to evacuate. It looks like we are going to be okay but 4 towns in Ventura County are in danger. Ance$try does glean info from Rootsweb since MyFamily/Ance$try own the site. A lot of people have had their info taken, without permission by Ance$try. They aren't ethical and that's why I prefer our private list where we can say what we want and nobody but other list members can read the archives. I don't know how we can recruit more people but if you have any ideas, share them. There have to be tons of Garrards out there. There are tons of Maupins and both couples came to America the same year and landed in VA. I'm looking into starting a yahoo private list for my family Rootsweb lists. The plus, beside privacy, is that we can share photos in email or upload them to the list site. When I get it going y'all will receive invitations to join. yahoo isn't sluggish like smartgroups became. So good to see you guys on here this morning, I was beginning to think I was the only person who even remembered the Garrards, should have known you two were still digging. My digging has been sparse this last year, seems like we spend more time going to doctors than we do sleeping. Maybe that will change this year. Maybe we should start a campaign to get more interest generated. Careful tho, had a letter this morning from a mailing list that info meant only for the list was posted on Ancestry.Com as the lady's own research and living people listed for the entire world to use. The list Mom finally got all of it removed from Ancestry.Com and kicked the lady off of the list. Seems a lot of people do not respect the privacy of living people. Cold here and snow on Grand Mesa just behind us. Sug --------------------------------- Get your email and more, right on the new Yahoo.com
Sandi, Are you related to the soldier Maupin from Cincinnati, only missing soldier missing in action in Iraq. I live in Cincinnati.
Dear Sandi, The DNA will help us to fine all are closer relatives as well as the ones hundreds of years ago. I was hoping to find some of mine. I found no matches in the data base. Of the Governor's 9 children, only Daniel Garrard's family from Clay County Kentucky, and my line from John Mountjoy Garrard, seem to stay online in there genealogy work. Not knocking anyone. It just been so hare it find people of his other children's line Terry.
Dear Family, This DNA requires a lot of study to understand which I know very little about but I will give you a little in site as to what I got back from the findings. As I understand it, on a 12 marker Y-DNA search, a mutation is very high after 6 to 8 generations. In other words, one of the marks will be different. Since Col. Wm. Garrard living in Virginia about 1740 is my son's 6th GGF and he is 38. We are talking 7 generations if he had children. That means the odds of a mutation is great in the old countries. The numbers I am about to post first tell the number of mutations, country, number of people that have DNA from that country and matches. 1 Mutation British Isles (512) 1 match 2 Mutations British Isles (512) 1 England (9472) 8 France (1173) 2 Germany (4251) 3 Ireland (5048) 4 Italy (1042) 2 Mexico (377) 2 Scotland (4057) 5 These are the closes ties in the world. In some of the other finding I got, I was struck by how many people in Iceland have ties to us from many centuries back. Terry Lee Garrard Sr.
Terry: Did you buy that book compiled by James Welch that has our Clay County Garrards listed? If not, let me know I'll look at it and see if your John Mountjoy Garrard line is included. You aren't knocking anyone at all. This list isn't that large and it makes me wonder if there are that many of our relatives who are into doing genealogy? My Garrard line includes Fitzpatrick, Maupin, Moncrief and Williams branches in the older family and many newer branches. Some belong to my Fitzpatrick list and some to my Maupin list. I think it depends on which family line people are more interested in. I know I've found many relatives I didn't know I had through the net and the books James Welch did that included the Garrards and the one that included the Maupins. Terry: Yes, Keith Maupin is a cousin and we've been keeping up with any news and praying. I have some Maupin cousins in your town who have talked with the family. They also let President Bush know that he is also related to that young man. Terry: It would be interesting to know the number of people we are related to. Way to many to even want to try to put their info in our family trees. I'm more interested in closer family. But, one of my first cousin's son married a Pakistani and they divorced so she took their daughter back to Pakistan with her. So my Garrard cousins have a Pakistani relative! Our President, George Walker Bush, is my 7th cousin twice removed through my Maupin family. My Maupin couple came to America at the same time as our Garrard couple. This is all so interesting but I'm not personally interested in DNA testing. I'm glad you were so we could clear up the myth! Oh, I might be interested in DNA testing if someone thought they might be related to me in a closer family line. I have 3 sons so am sure I could get one of them to do the testing. Thanks, again for sharing! Dear family, the mystery is solved after 200 years. Governor James Garrard of Stafford County, VA and Rev. John Gerard of Berkeley County, W. VA are not related. The results came back negative. It is kind of a let down because all these years there has been that family myth that Col. William Garrard and Rev. John Gerard may have been brothers and got it to some dispute and Rev. John was so mad that he changed the spelling of his name. Well the myth is now broken forever! The Good news about that is people just starting family trees now know they are really different lines. Thanks, Terry Lee Garrard Sr., 4th g grandson of Governor James Garrard
Terry: Thanks for the info! Isn't it interesting about that myth. I've heard it for many years from various people. It sure did sound truthful. Surnames: Garrard, Nixon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FEY.2ACEB/188.2 Message Board Post: Hello - We are possibly searching for the same family. My g gd father was William Garrard. He had a sister referred to as Aunt Scrap. From my research, I found Aunt Scrap had a twin, nicknamed Kit. According to my research, Aunt Scrap would have been married to a Timmer, and her last child with him was named Olive, born in McKee OK in 1888. To my knowledge, Aunt Scrap's name was Louisa, but this may be wrong, since I can find no trace of her under this name in my research. In any case, Allen T. Garrard and Nancy Maddox, who were married in GA in 1827, had a number of children, including Sarah, Louisa, Nancy, Martha, Mary, William, John, James, and Margarett. I am struggling to establish a clear link between these families, at least Louisa and William left GA and headed at some point to OK (then Indian Territory). If you would like, we could work on this together. I live in France, but you can contact me by e-mail any time. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. ! Thanks and regards, Alexandra Nixon
