In the early 1950's the Federal Government took over a large part of Barnwell (Aiken?) county area for the Savannah River Project for the manufacture of Atomie Energy. The whole Town of Ellenton was taken over and people and house were moved out. Some graves and Cemeteries were moved, but many remained. They have been catalogued and published. Some other people on the list who live and the area and may work there can do a much better explanation of what happened. I was living with my pareants in Augusta in the Bayvale Community in 1949-1951 when it all first started. I remember riding around the area with my paretns after the anouncement was made, but before it was all taken over. My father had lived in the area as a child for a few years c. 1927 on the McHaney (spelling?) place.
