Pamela BROWN, born ca 1845, was the ward of Hon. Charles J. Jenkins of Augusta. She was the niece of Mrs. Jenkins. Pamela and her siblings were enumerated as "for executor" with the Jenkins household in the 1860 Richmond County census. Governor Jenkins died in 1883, His Augusta Chronicle obituary (15 June) names three women as his nieces and only living relatives. I have identified two of them as the former Fannie Brown (Mrs. J. Gardner Montgomery) and the former Willie Brown (Mrs. Walter M. Jackson). The third was Mrs. William W. Thomas of Athens. The Clarke County 1880 census (familysearch.org) shows in the 4th Ward of Athens W.W. THOMAS, 31, insurance broker; wife Pamela, 28, and daughters Gertrude, 1, and Isabelle, 1 mo. Was William W. THOMAS a Richmond County native or resident? Who were his parents? Can someone find him in the 1850/1860/1870 census? When did Pamela BROWN THOMAS die and where is she buried? Thanks for any help. Russell
I found them myself this morning in Memoirs of Georgia (1895). William Winstead Thomas (b. 1849) was a native of Athens, not Richmond County. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and president of the Southern Mutual Insurance Co. He was a director of the GARR Bank, a trustee of UGA, and a member of the commission that built the state capitol in Atlanta. His parents were Steven and Isabella Thomas. I still don't have death dates or places of burial, but they're probably in Clarke County. Russell On Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at 04:07 PM, Russell K.
