    1. Re: [GARICHMO] Warren Family Cemetery
    2. Thanks Virginia. I do have more information about this cemetery. There is interest in saving and restoring it. This cemetery is also called the Coleman-Leigh-Warren Cemetery. It has also been called the Warren-Bedford Cemetery I think because it is located in Bedford Heights area. There is an organization, Friends of Coleman-Leigh-Warren Cemetery led by Brad Cunningham, dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the cemetery. To find more on this organization go to: http://colemanleighwarren.org/ Liz Nash AHGP, Richmond County, GA http://www.rootsweb.com/~garichm2/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Virginia Crilley" <virginia@genrecords.org> To: <GARICHMO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 01, 2005 8:39 PM Subject: [GARICHMO] Warren Family Cemetery > http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/richmond/cemeteries/warren.txt > > James Hall has provided us with another cemetery -- Warren Family. This is a very old one, and he thinks there are more people buried here. It would be so nice to hear from researchers who might know more about this graveyard. He gave it as his opinion that the installments were sufficient to meet the ______ damages, and declared he should pay no more. 3. I'm not an expert but I can offer these points. The portion of Aiken County that now borders Augusta on the other side of the Savannah River was part of Edgefield District in the 1840s. The Augusta Canal was under construction at the time and finished about 1845. There may have been other canals in the area that I don't know about. Edward J. Cashin's book, The Brightest Arm of the Savannah, is a history of the Augusta Canal and includes a chronology of events in its construction. I don't subscribe to the Edgefield and SC lists. If someone thinks this is of interest, can you please forward it? 3. TO: Diane Sparks, Lee and Billie Jones, and List Members, I am forwarding your message to the Richmond County, Georgia, list and back to the South Carolina ones. I am not up on my Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, history, as to specific dates, but the canal digging mentioned in the posting below would be somewhere around the time that the Augusta Canal and other similar type work would have been going on. It might would fit if the family lived on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River and fairly close to the Augusta area. Just a suggestion. I don't recall exactly when the railroads began to come in. There might could have been some type of work train to transport workers. Just throwing out some ideas. I have several generations buried in the old Magnolia Cemetery and in West View Cemetery in Augusta, Georgia, from the late 1800's and early 1900's and I lived in Augusta in the late 1940's as a young child and visited back there fairly often in the years after that. Green-Cumbaa, Crow, Toole, Whitlock, Carpenter, etc. While I don't have any specific information, it would seem reasonable that there might have been some type of minor canals in connection with some of the early textile miles in the Horse Creek Valley with places like Graniteville, etc. My husband's Cates family was frome the Edgefield area that became Saluda and my Whitlock and Carpenters and associated families were from the Trenton area. Tooles were from Barnwell. 1. Battle of Aiken Movie
    2. Please foward this information on to all of your comrades: The premiere of the movie, Battle of AIken, will be held Friday, August 26 at the Imperial Theatre, Broad Steet, Downtown Augusta, Ga. All men who have uniforms and ladies in period dress are asked to wear them for the premier parade. As three TV stations as well as the newspapers will be there, we need a good turnout to impress the medias. The Imperial controls all ticketing. They are doing this at matinee rates of just $5. You can buy in advance or at the gate. If you can be in the parade and can't get a ticket in advance, please buy one at the gate by 6:15. The parade will muster behind the Imperial at 6 to 6:30 at St Pauls Church parking lot. The Parade will move out at 7 PM up 6th street and turn onto Broad Street. Infantry is asked to bring powder as several volleys will be fired. The soldiers, followed by the actors, will then make the grand entrance into the Imperial. (It is important that soldiers have tickets in hand so as to not slow down the procession) The movie will start at 8. The Imperial is one of the last of the old historic grand theatres left in the South. It will be a rare treat to watch a War Between the States movie in this theatre. People who can't make it Friday night, can see it on Sat. Aug 27 at 2,4,6,8 or10 . These two days will be the only opportunity to see the film in our area, so don't miss it!

    1. marriage record for Mary Ann Hood
    2. I am looking for a possible marriage record for my gggrandmother, Mary Ann (Hood) Walker Rowe. I know that she was possibly married to a Walker before she married James Rowe. It is thought that her maiden name may have been Hood. Does anyone know of how I can check for this marriage record without having to visit the courthouse? The possible marriage record I am looking for is: Mary Ann Hood (possible maiden name) and ? Walker (possibly John) who were married in Richmond County circa July 1845. Mary Ann later married James Rowe July 3, 1853 (Richmond Co, GA) but listed her marriage date as 1845 on her Civil War pension records. This could possibly be the year she married her first husband since she had two children before she married James Rowe. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Randy Rowe rowesof4@bellsouth.net
