Answering roll call. Need burial site of JAAW Clark (d. 1/6/1919), and parents of Hiram W. Fargo (arrived about 1834 from Ct.) Many Thanks! Herb Clark
I am attempting to document a fact recorded on my ancestor's tombstone in the Leverette Family Cemetery in Iva, Anderson Co., South Carolina. "He assisted in building the first houses in the City of Augusta, GA. " My ancestor is Stephen Leverett born in Lunenburg Co., VA, in the year 1765 Departed this life [in Anderson, SC] the 6th of September 1853. A Michael McKie was chosen by Stephen as his guardian in 1783 when Stephen's father died in Lunenburg. This same Michael McKie left and went to the Augusta area [late 1780s] according to the British Mercantile Claims of Virginia and printed in the Virginia Genealogist. Although I have do not have adequate documentation to prove this, it is my belief that a Daniel McKie, carpenter in early Augusta, was either a son or brother to this same Michael McKie. Thanks for considering my query. Any help will be appreciated. Charlotte Tucker Tuscaloosa, AL

Mary was 70 when she died in 1933. I am sending you the obit to your personal email as the Augusta Chronicle has copyright and I am not allowed to post on the web. Hope it helps. Feel free to share the obit via private email to researchers of Clarke but please do not post any full transcription to a mailing list or post it online that I have transcribed as it violates copyright. Excerpts of fact are ok though. Thanks. Yvonne Once again, thank you for responding and the lesson in copyright rules.

I am wondering then how it is that you cannot "confirm" his burial? Have you been in contact with Magnolia to check? Yvonne I'm new to this and tried but did not find the right path. However, as a byproduct of this rollcall, someone gave me the link. Thanks for responding.

He was a pharmacist, born SC, died 12/7/1915, age 67, buried 12/8/1915. With him is Mary Callahan Clarke, died 12/3/1933, no age or place of birth given. I should have left the first name off. I keyed in Osmund.

Is there anything in particular that you are searching for on REANEY/RANEY/RHENEY? They are not my line as you know, but would be glad to look for anything specific. I'm the one who sent you a copy of his naturalization papers. Harder to research at Rich Co these days. They won't let you pull files by yourself, but you can look at the indexes to get the reference for the clerks. Yvonne

I meant to include the link to Magnolia Cemetery graveside search. They are in the process of recording all known graves online. Several volunteers are helping out with the transcriptions. It will take several years to get them all online. I tried searching for Osmund Clarke and couldn't find a listing but that doesn't mean anything at this point in the transcription process. Here is the link for those who might like to check it out. If you are local, you might want to go by the cemetery and talk to Jerry Murphy to see if he is buried there. If you are not local. I could run by next week and check for you. Let me know. _Trees & Landscaping - Graveside Search_ (http://www.augustaga.gov/departments/trees_landscaping/graveside_default.asp) Yvonne

Pettyjohn of Augusta. Mrs. Pettyjohn, not going down to breakfast, Mrs. Dozier, the proprietor of the hotel, knocked at her door, and receiving no response, forced an entrance, and on entering found the occupant unconscious. Two hours later Mrs. Pettyjohn was dead. A half emptied vial on the table told a part of the story. There is evidently some mystery behind the scenes which has not yet been permitted to creep out. When preparations were made for shrouding the body the only trunk in the room was found to contain gentlemans clothing. A brother-in-law of the deceased, when he arrived, asked to see the trunk and tried to gain entrance into the room where the inquest was being held. He said the verdict should have been that the deceased came to her death by reason of heart failure and not by opiates from her own hands.
