    2. Bill, Which census were you looking at for Fulton County, 1900? 1910? If no one gets to it first, let me know by Thurs, Nov 10 and I will check the Richmond Co. Probate for the marriage. I will be off work that day. Yvonne In a message dated 11/5/2005 12:37:18 PM Eastern Standard Time, N3CXW@comcast.net writes: My g grandfather Harry W. Stine was discharged from the Army in Augusta c1899. He subsequently married one Martha C. ?, and had three children that are listed in the Fulton county census. One was listed as born in SC which leads me to believe that they may have been in the Augusta area c1905. The census also stated they had been married for 10 years which may have also occurred around Augusta. Any help determining Martha's maiden name would be greatly appreciated. 3. This lady asked that I post this request to the list since she is not a member. Please answer her directly if you have any information for her. Thanks. Liz Nash I am searching for the names and birthdates of my great grandfather and great grandmother. I don't have their names but they did have two children. My grandfather, was born, by the 1920, census on May 26, 1895 in Augusta, Georgia. His name is Frederick Joseph Archie Reynolds. My aunt, my grandfather's sister, was born around 1903 in Augusta, Georgia. Her name was Rose Estelle Reynolds. My mother says her grandmother's first name was Bessie. This is all that I have. If there is any information you can give me on my great grandparents, please let me know. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Linda Dickerson [DickersL@DPWrfy.ci.detroit.mi.us]

    1. Marriage Bonds and Banns
    2. I received this from the NC Roots list and have permission to post to this list. I don't know how many know about Marriage Banns. I knew about bonds but not Banns so this may help those that can't find marriage licenses etc. I know I have looked for quite a few marriage records and have not been successful. This could be the reason. I figured they got married by a circuit minister and they never bothered to have it recorded. So this is something of that nature. Beulah Marriage Banns, an announcement to marry was read before the church congregatoin for 3 consecutive Sundays, and if no objections arose, a certificate to marry was issued at the end of the 3 weeks. authorizing the the marriage to take place. The fee in NC for banns was 1 shilling and 6 pence compared to 20 shillings paid to the Governor for each bond issued plus 5 shillings to the Clerk of Court for issuing the bond and recording it. Marriage by banns eliminated the time and expense of traveling to the county seat to post bond. The problem for genealogist is that few of these banns exist today outside the Quaker or Church of England records. Even though the law did require the marriage be filed with the county clerk it was rarely done. Marriage bonds required travel to the county seat to secure the bond, the groom and his bondsman usually a male relative or close friend would sign the bond. The name of the bride would also be recorded. Parents names were not recorded unless the bride was under age. The bond was for the sum of 50 pounds then raised to 50pounds under the Act of 1778. It was not until after 1868 that marriage records became more complete and included parents names. However some counties were still slow to include names of parents. NC did away with marriage bonds after 1868. It has been estimated that 2/3 of nc marriages were by banns and have been lost to time. 3. This is really helpful, I'm trying to differentiate between the Samuel Collins you mention below of Craven County NC and another possible Samuel Collins who started the SC Church, later known as Liberty Methodist Church located near Hephzibah in Richmond County. I'd be interested in any further information you can provide on this Samuel. My main names of interest are John, George, Moses, and Leven. I'm especially interested in John Collins who was JP around 1810, and captain of the tax collection District 3 in 1808. The Lewis Collins you mention below is often lumped in my group of Collins' but I believe he is not related to the group I mention above. I'll email you off list and we can explore this further. I checked a booklet that I have on "Old Pinetucky, the Lost Community" which was put out by the Core of Engineers at Ft. Gordon to show the location of various cem. and who is buried in each. Lots of known cem. with no names listed, so assuming there were no tombstones there. There were NO Collins names listed. And I did find Spirit Creek running thru Ft. Gordon properties. I am not sure where it starts or ends, as I have no specific detailed map of the area. My INGLETT and DISMUKE familes are buried there. Hope some of the names above are familiar to you. I have more generations for most of them. But only posted these early ones for you to check out. 2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. I am very interested in your Bridwell name. According to my g-grandfather's death cert., which left his father's name blank, his mother was a Narcissa Bridwell/Breadwell/Birdwell?? SS records indicate that John Wesley Smith's father might have been a John Smith. John Wesley was possibly born in [Lexington Co, SC??], January 06, 1868. He lived in Aiken Co, SC in the 1900 Census. Family moved to Augusta Ga, and John Wesley Smith worked for the RR. ANY information on the Bridwell family would be of help.
