Wright, who was buried in Magnolia Cemetery on 20 Oct 1882. He is my g-g-g-grandfather, and my brick wall. I would ask him where he was born, and who his parents and siblings were. "Yesterday morning the illness of Mr. Jno. S. Wright, noted in the CHRONICLE, terminated in his death. Mr. Wright was one of the most popular and progressive merchants of Augusta. He was among the first men to open a store on Warren Block, after which he became engaged in the grocery business on Broad. Subsequently be returned to the Cotton Row, and was engaged with Messrs. Josiah Sibley & Sons, and then with Messrs. Claghorn, Herring & Co. For the past six years be has been conducting the cotton business with Mr. Geo. W. Crane, and was successfully continuing that branch up to the time of his death. He was sixty-three years old, and was universally esteemed by his friends and associates. He will be buried to-day, at three o'clock from St. Paul's Church, with Masonic exercises." is from the 20 Oct 1882 issue of the Augusta Chronicle. 3. A second ancestor that I would like to talk to is my g-g-grandmother, Sarah Laura Wright, the daughter of John S. Wright and Mary Isabel Eve. At age 24 she married her father’s friend, Dr. Thomas S. Beckwith who was almost 60, and possibly from Richmond, Virginia. The marriage was performed on 27 June 1872 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at the corner of Reynolds and Washington in Augusta, Georgia. (Family history says that Beckwith was soon killed, possibly in a train wreck, when their daughter Mary was an infant). On the 1880 Census Mrs. Sarah Laura Beckwith (and her daughter Mary) are living with her parents, the John S. Wright family in Augusta. Thomas Stanly Beckwith is my second brick wall. IGI says they were married at St. Paul's. but I can find no other information. Any help would be appreciated. David L. 2. Hi, Do not know if this is what you are looking for or not. Mary Ann Floyd married Thomas J. Hood 12/26/43 in Wahington Co., Ga.

    1. Rowe family
    2. If given the chance to ask questions of one ancestor, it would be my gggrandfather, James Rowe. I would ask who his wife, Mary Ann (Hood) Walker Rowe, was married to first. I would ask him about his parents, Thomas and Mary Smars/Smare Rowe, and his grandparents, who's names I do not know. I would ask him about his stories from his service in the Civil War and his wound he recieved Jund 4, 1864 at the Battle of Turkey Ridge (Cold Harbor) in Virginia. Needless to say, he would become very familiar with his grandson because I would spend so much time with him asking more questions than I could ever post to this website. If anyone has access to the marriage records of Richmond County, I would love to know if there is a a marriage record for Mary Ann Hood and ? Walker around 1845. His name could possibly be John but we are not sure. Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to give, Randy Rowe

    3. NYC death certificates started in 1866. They almost always list place of birth, in general terms, but that information was supplied, of course, by next of kin. Names of parents of deceased (when known) on the certificates started about 1880. That could be a clue to Susan's name before marriage. The place of burial is usually shown. NYC death indexes and certificates from 1866 through about 1965 are available for rental on microfilm through the LDS family history center (FHC) system. The indexes are arranged by year and then alphabetically. The certificates are in numerical order. It may take a lot of patient searching but names can be found and certificates copied. After you find the place of burial, you usually have to write to the cemetery and pay a fee for the record. A few will do it for free by telephone. NY state outside NYC is completely different, with the indexes in Albany and not microfilmed. You have to visit or write. when you find the county of death, you have to visit or write for a copy of the certificate. Georgia didn't start death certificates until 1918 or 1919. The indexes are available on microfiche at most public libraries arranged by year of death and then alphabetically. Once you have a number you have to write to or visit the county to get a copy. 2. You can check the burial records, and see if they list a surname for Susan. Also check death certificates for all their children. The death certificates for the children is how we found the surname for the spouse of ggggf who came from Ireland. Looks like you need to check censuses. 1870 will tell you birth place of the listed person. 1880 and later censuses will tell you birth place of their parents. 1900 and later censuses will tell you year of immigration for the listed person.
