I am looking for any information that might give me some knowledge about my father's family. His name is Marden Orth Gardner, Jr; his father was Marden Orth Gardner, Sr. (married Eva Cash); and his grandfather was the mayor of Waynesboro, Virginia (possibly William). There was also a Gardner Mansion in Waynesboro, Virginia that I understand has since been demolished and replaced with a bank. Any information would be of great benefit to my family. Murden is one of my family names and your father's unusual first name, Marden, may be a modification of that name. There are two large Murden families in the US. My branch came to Indiana and spread out from there, but another, much larger family, came to the area around Virginia Beach in the 1600s or early 1700s, with most people with this surname found in Virginia. They apparently had slaves, as there is a black family in the area with this surname also.
