Does anyone have any genealogical and biographical information on the ancestry and immediate descendants of Rev. James and Mary (-----) GARDNER? James was the minister of the First Church at Marshfield, MA. I am working on a theory that his dau., Dorothy, married Ezra-4 WHITMARSH. For more information, please read the message thread below and refer to the MINER and DYER documents at my web site (now in need of updates!). I don't know if the Dorothy below is the right Dorothy, but the time, place, and her background make her a good candidate I would think. Bowman also published the VR for Marshfield, which is pretty much next to Plymouth, and there are three mentions of a Dorothy Gardner in MD who was born in Marshfield--here's one: "Dorothy, d. of James Gardner and mary (sic) his wife was born January the 21st 1721/22." MD 30:152 One interesting note is that Dorothy's father was Rev. James Gardner, the minister at the First Church, Marshfield. This would fit well, I would think, with the information about Ezra's education you gave, Fred, as Harvard's original mission was to train clergy. How, having said what I have about "ditto," this all fits together I can't say, but I think she could be a Dorothy worth checking. I agree we shouldn't worry too much about the "Mrs." As we know it was commonly used at the time in the marriage records for unmarried women. Good luck, Harlow ***Marriages consummated by Saml.
