    1. [GARDNER] Necrology File
    2. The Cleveland (Ohio) Necrology File, a collection of paid death notices from Cleveland newspapers and cemetery records, has been converted to digital format and mounted on Cleveland Public Library's website (http://www.cpl.org). It consisting of 800,000+ death notices and covering the early 1800s through 1975, the Necrology File is searchable not only by the name of the deceased but also by keywords in the death notices. Users can search names of relatives, churches, synagogues, funeral homes, place names, and other relevant information in this online format. The original File was compiled over a period of years in the Library and consisted of the death notices clipped and pasted onto individual index cards. In the 1970's, the File was microfilmed to preserve the content of the death notices. The new digital format enables users to access this important information either in the Library or on personal computers. This resource will be of great value to those doing research on family or Greater Cleveland history.
