    1. [GARDNER] JOHN GARDNER
    2. Hi Everyone, We are new to the list & after seeing all the John Gardner's, thought we might as well add another one. My wife's great grandfather, John W? Gardner was born 6 Aug 1843 in OH?, died 17 Dec 1884 probably Pulaski Co MO. John's birth & death dates were given to us by a lady who has probably since passed away. No idea where she got them. John married Catherine Justice in Harrison Co Mo, 11 April 1867. The 1870 Census for that county shows John born in IL. The 1880 census shows him born in OH. We tend to lean towards the Oh birth. My wife was always told that the Gardners were to poor to own anything, yet one of the first records I found was Land Records. John & Catherine owned land just south of New Hampton Harrison Co Mo. The family story is that John had TB & they were told that there was an Indian in Pulaski Co Mo who could cure any illness. So John & Catherine sold their land & loaded all the kids including a new born into a covered wagon & headed for Pulaski Co MO. We have no proof that John ever got to Pulaski Co Mo, but one of his daughters was married there so we have every reason to believe that he did, & is buried there. As usual, the courthouse burned so no records. John & Catherine had 8 children: Mary Adaline "Molly", b-1868 Harrison Co, Married #1 James W Cotten, #2 William Riley Cox, Clarissa Belle, b-1870 Harrison Co, married #1 Frank Marion Williams in Pulaski Co MO., #2 Charles Perry Carson, Jane E., b-1872 Harrison Co Mo., married her sister Clarissa's first husband Frank Marion Williams, Samuel O. (my wife's grandfather) b-1874, Harrison Co, married Anna Marie Norris, Isadera "Dora", b-1877 Harrison Co, Married Peter Rudolph Cook, Maggy E. b-1878, Harrison Co. (no other info), Nettie, b-1880 Harrison Co, married Louis A Kidd, Florence D., b-1883, Harrison Co, married James Lanely. After John died, the family moved to Jefferson Co Mo., (DeSota) to work for the RR. Catherine later married Sanders Stewart & they had 1 child, Sanders Paul Stewart. My wife & I are so hopeful that someone on this list will recognize this info. Don & Patsy Bethard [email protected]
