This one is not so far back, but he is the reason for my interest. He was after all, my father and a wonderful man. I thought he deserves a place on the list. He was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Woodson. He graduated from Littlefield High School in 1954 and married Virgie Hendley July 23, 1954, in Littlefield. He was a volunteer at Littlefield Elementary School and was a basketball referee on the South Plains for several years.He was a member of the Texas Association of Sports Officials and umpired baseball on the South Plains for several years. He was a member of the Texas District 2 Umpires Association. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 40 years of service. He was a member of Highway 385 Church of Christ in Littlefield. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kevin of Dallas; two daughters, Tonie Cook of Aurora, Colo., and Mikelle Jones of Littlefield; a brother, Ted of Ada, Okla.; three sisters, Winnie Thompson of Stanton, Ruby Wells of Midland and Dollie Shelton of Tye; and six grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the American Institute for Cancer Research at 1759 R. St. N.W., Washington, DC 20009.
